I think the Rockets need to start playing with a sense of urgency. It's game like the Memphis one tonight and the Pacers one a couple games ago that really irk me and show that they just aren't ready to compete at a high level. If the playoffs started today, we'd be knocked out by any western conference team, I guarantee it. The Western conference isn't as competitive so far right now with PHX in the 9th spot and after that a bunch of really crappy teams. But it IS competitive in the top 1-8 spots. With the exception of the Lakers, I could see 2-8 shuffle back and forth this season. Portland and Denver both look more ready to win than we do. I hope its just the injuries to Battier, TMac, and artest that are causing us problems. The offense is still NOT fluid at all and its hurting us against legitimate teams. We really need to start realizing that the playoffs are not guaranteed and that we HAVE to have a top 4 spot with homecourt advantage. We do not have want to play the Lakers or the Spurs in the first round...
We may out, if we continue play like this. We lose too many games we think can easily win. Spurs, Pacers, now Grizzlies, how many times will this happen I hate Rockets now, players is no winning appetite.
Worrying about playoffs spots already? Give it a little time; We will blend together, sometime -- hopefully soon. Just bring the old starters and let Artest bring more punch with Brooks as a second unit. This will at least balance out the team better. Just trade Head and Hayes for an average 'big'. We're too little, we definitely can't compare if we keep our roster like this. Dorsey needs to work quick.
Wow this is just the same as last year we played bad the board imploded and as soon as we start winning again its happy days again. Geez people can't you see this is what happens in regular season we sometimes struggle and sometimes we go on a roll, just have patience and start panicking after the all star break if we are still crap.
Rockets = Astros (and perhaps Texans too!?) in that they all have tremendous 2nd halves. Ideally, this is what you want. Momentum going into the playoffs, but injuries have killed most of the momentum. I have 100% confidence in the Rockets making the playoffs. The Mavs or Suns? Not so much.
Uhh... We are not as good as the Celtics or the Lakers. They have been insanely consistent so far. Excluding those two, every team will slip up here and there. Sometimes it's against a strong opponent, sometimes it's against a weak opponent. Sometimes the effort just won't be there. Call it an excuse or whatever you want, but that's a fact. Nothing will change that. We have a lot of inconsistencies on our team. But for the most part, we have enough talent to get by the season and get to a decent playoff seeding. We really need to focus on both our stars being healthy, as well as other important members of the team. There are only 9 teams that look like they will contend for playoff spots. As you know, 8 will make it. I'm not worried...
tell you what, id rather miss the playoffs than finish any lower than 5th. the difference between finishing 8th rather than 9th in the west is receiving the 20th pick rather than the 14th.
Dude, it is the first week of december. I have been saying since the pre-season, we need to be above .500 by the All-Star break. Then we should be healthy and have devloped some nice chemistry. With the West being so close, all it takes is two good months and we can fly from 8th to second in no time. Now the Laker's are not as good as everyone claims. Sure they have only lsot 2 games, but if you watch them play tehre defense is terible. They play 12 good minutes of defense. Remember, we got ahead by double digits against them, playing not much better than we are now. The Celtics are another story all together.
I agree with the OPs premiss. The team is not going to go anywhere with a low seed. Too many minefields to traverse. If they don't play harder from top to bottom, it will be another good but not great season. Injuries or not. DD
The Rockets need to try and get all the wins they can get. They must have a high seed if they want to have any chance to win a Championship. I don't want to hear that we only need to make the playoffs like Artest said. I know there are folks that feel the same way. It's not going to work that way. They must play hard every night and not take any team lightly. Let's just hope that stride is coming in January or February but hopefully it won't be too late....
agree with this post entirely. i said the same thing last year, and again before this season started... it will take until at least january or even the all star break before this team really comes together - especially considering our health problems. as it stands, i think we've positioned ourselves quite well all things considered. i fully expect us to take one of the top 2 spots in the WC.
100% agree. And the thing that irks me the most is they could have been sitting pretty with a more consistent effort, their answer seems to be "Well the other teams are struggling too"......while the better teams are using the early season struggles of others to seperate themselves from the pack. The Rockets....not so much....they could easily have 4 or 5 more wins...... DD
Agree, but Shady do want to play the Spurs or Lakers in the 1st round of the playoffs. Making the playoffs and being healthy is one thing, playing a MotherFu""er in the 1st round is another thing. Blowing game after game against the bottom feeders of the league is a huge mistake. I laugh when I hear people on this board and T-Mac say just recently that the rockets are coming up to an easier part of there schedule. The rockets own the Grizzlies 2009 second round pick next year, dumping another loss on Memphis last night would have helped them in the standings and in the upcoming draft.
I don't quite recall the numbers, but historically I'm pretty sure that there's a huge jump in chances of advancing past the first round when you're a 3 or higher seed. 4/5 is essentially a 50/50 wash. And lower than that, it's in the higher seed's favor obviously. Right now, the Lakers will be a top 3 seed. After that, we need to at least finish second out of New Orleans, Utah, Denver, Blazers, Spurs, Mavericks, and Suns. That's no joke. And the Rockets better not be expecting another 22-game win streak to bail them out in the second half. That's a once in a generation feat.
