OK I can see some pushing that point of view. Things are going well. So if being positive is good enough for us fans, then when is Jeff Van Gundy going to be encouraged to join the caravan and be positive? On our own front page is posted quotes from Van Gundy and the actual video of his post-Warrior win press conference. I played it for my son who also attends games with me but does not read clutchfans. He was flabberghasted at Van Gundy's negative comments.

    http://clutchfans.net/news/1377/despite_blowout_van_gundy_not_happy/

Hayes scores 8 and 15 rb's and JVG says what about him?

And our scrubs hold their own in the 4th and JVG says what about them?

We do have 21 TO's - which is too many but typical of the past few years of JVG led teams early in the season until they learn to protect the ball and play together.

So for everyone who says that in order to be Rockets fans we have to stop whining and get on the postivity bandwagon as long as the record is good, then what about ole coachy?

Come on coach, the record is 12-6! Unwind! Relax and have a beer! Times are good! :p

I feel better now, cause the Mavs just lost to Pistons and are now 13-6.

This means we can tie em tomorrow night and maybe even lead em after Saturday!

OK so this means some of us are actually allowed to criticize player rotations and offensive and defensive schemes if we don't like them?

Or is it just the coach who is getting a bye on this? But maybe not a bye from Les if he keeps this kind of talk up.....

His team is not perfect what else did you expect. JVG demands perfection because he believes he is. He has said in the past that talent is a given on most NBA teams and that the difference is his coaching. He said that last years starting team of Wesley Howard Rybo alston and Bogans had no excuses for losing they just didn’t execute. He hates the humaness of his players and would prefer coaching robots.

JVG believes if the team executes his plan to a T they will never fail and yet he considers it failing miserably even when the win by 30 points. He thinks there is such a thing as a foolproof NBA coaching system of which he has personally devised but doesn't take into account the ingenuity of opposing coaches. He most recently said the 30 point win was nothing more than catching Cleveland on a back to back after getting whooped by San ANtonio. And then he immediately contradicts himself when states there is no excuse for the Rockets to play poorly on a back to back. It's not physical it is mental is what he said. Tell that to a 310 pound 7'6" man running back and forth who leaves his heart on the court.

Granted he is a reasonably intelligent coach who has a good defensive strategy. But the mentality he has will never win a championship. He has the perfect team for his style, a group of good to great athletes that are willing to do what they are told no questions asked. But he is missing the 1 ingredient, they will never go to war for him. I predict the defense will get better the offense will remain stagnant, Yao will continue to be the dominant player that he is because he answers to a higher authority his family country and honor. But the Rockets will never be a champion with JVG

I have never seen Yao triple-teamed early in the first quarter and I didn't see any solid adjustment by JVG. that's wha tis disturbing.

We would all enjoy a 50+ win season, but it's fool's gold if we have another 1st round exit in the playoffs. This team has WCF or bust written on it and for some it may be closer to NBA finals or bust.

I don't think we can get there without finding our 3rd scoring option and developing some killer instinct.

Nobody (at least from what I have read) is saying you can't criticize JVG's decisions. It's when people say things like, "JVG will never learn," or act like they have the one ubiquitous solution to the Rockets' problems that JVG is completely oblivious to.

JVG knows that there are many ways to run a team, and I'm sure he considers all but the most idiotic of ideas posted on these boards.

Also, a lot of the criticism is driven by a bias/man-crush towards individual players. That criticism is usually devoid of anything rational.

JVG will not settle for 12-6. He wouldn't settle for 82-0. There is only one ultimate goal, and his vigilance shows that he is committed to that goal.

Sorry OMR but the refs have determined that you did not have permission to criticize the Great and Wonderful Oz. You have incurred a David Stern no-shouting while hanging from the rim Technical Foul - playing for the "negatives" you are on the visiting team - because only true blue non-whiners are homers. Shooting the T for the Rockets-Positives - none other than their best FT shooter - hey where is Van Gundier?

    :D

And here playing for the homers is our very own version of Mutombo's elbows - ShakeYoHipsYao!

As far as rational - I was thinking about that very trait while watching Van Gundy's press conference. My opinion - the guy is a bit "edgy" to say the least.

Do you understand the difference between legitimate criticism and meaningless ranting?

As for being a homer, I am open to criticism of JVG or the Rockets, but I am also going to call you out if you are full of it.

JVG is a good coach, I am not sure he is a championship coach.

Point: JVG fails to adjust to the way the game is being called.
Evidence: It took him 3 years to even TRY a zone, even though he was playing 2 of the slowest footspeed players at the 4 and 5 position, and he still doesn't have a 2nd penetrator on the floor in the 4th quarter...

JVG fails to adjust to other teams adjustments.
Evidence: Dallas goes small, Rockets go home......and numerous other instances, including the Minnesota loss where the other team ignored our PF and doubled Yao......a PF who can shoot (Padget/Novak) would have destroyed the T-pups strategy - JVG will see it on tape, others saw it live.

JVG Fails to develop young players:
Evidence : Cut Chuck Hayes, didn't want to play Luther head, was forced to take Chuck back and play Luther due to injuries, this year, V-Span a 25 year old accomplished international PG is feeling the little man's wrath.

I don't think JVG knows how to win it all, he is too slow to adjust, good coaches make adjustments, if JVG's plan A fails he has no Plan B.

You have two superstars, one of them being the best center in the league, another one the two time scoring champion, and you feel like a 54win season is going to make you proud?

    No way!

Not only that..but most here are saying what about our lack of wins against quality teams...like losing to the pistons and spurs. They are then reminded of our rout of Dallas...and they say, "but that does not count b/c both teams were 0-1 and later the Mavs went 0-4 and lost Josh Howard." So what? We played them when they were 1 loss into their 4 game losing streak and WITH josh howard playing. The consensus is that the Mavs are better now and we probably would lose to them now...bs. The Mavs just lost to a quality team at home...The Pistons.
b4 that they lost to the wizards by 9 on the first leg of a road back2back on Monday 12-4-06

The Roxs lost a winnable game on the SECOND leg of a back2back on the road to the shiiTwolves

The roxs and mavs have the same number of losses at 6. I think we are doing great. I am concerned with Snyder out and Bonzi not playing though.

I miss the "JVG sucks" thread.

It was a lot more efficient than a bunch of randomly named threads with the same retread posts.

No coach in any sport is going to tell his team they are great or that he's satisfied this early in the season.
