IMHO, the Rockets are lacking just one player from seriously being a contender.

A Bob Sura type at the PG position. Everywhere else the team has enough, but at PG, we just need a leader, someone who is fiery and can hit the clutch shots as well as ignite the team.

Everyone knows I think V-Span can be that guy, but not this year - it is too late.

So, this year was sacrificed for a chance to see where we are and to address the team's needs in the off season to finally become a contender.

Are there any Sura type of players either at the PG position or the PF position on the free agent market this year?

It would be great to upgrade both PG and PF, but PG has to be addressed more than any other position.

We don't need a Sura type player. I mentioned this before, even if we had a guy like Devin Harris starting for us we wold be set. He's fast, a great defender, decent shooter, and can penetrate.

This is the same exact thing we said in the 04-05 season...this season i think we are TWO players from being elite: a PG and a PF

    Let's get Mike Bibby, PLEASE!
The guy has handles, is a smart on court player and can shoot. Rafer is one of those three.....

I hate to say it but we only need a PG in the Derek Fisher mold. A good defensive player that can hit the open 3.

Give up this early? I wouldn't. After this loss, can we just forget the HCA, and dig out our bench's and JVG's potentials before the playoff? We'll be fine if T-mac gets his touches back, JVG uses Yao in a smarter way, Bonzi gets chance to play or V-mac sparks as a backup PG.

I never give up hope, but I also realistically don't believe this team is going anywhere this year, which is kind of why I wanted JVG to play his bench some and develop some of the younger players for the real run in the next 1-4 years.

If we can get Steve Francis, and he returns to anywhere near what he was for us before (I'm talking like half of what he was before), I think we can be elite.

I don't know if we can do that, though, given his relationship with JVG.

Not at all. We need a good player, not another "role player". When Rafer came, everyone said we needed a player like him, just someone who can pass the ball to Yao, and not turn it over, and hit some 3s. That is obviosly not the case. They need a guy who can create for himself. A 3rd player that is capable of putting up 20 pts any given night. The suns, mavs, and spurs all have that, the rockets dont

I am sick of people who dont think you should ever complain about the rockets. Last time I checked, the rockets were not the best team in the league. there are improvements that can be made, specifically at pg. Just because they are on the rockets is not a reason to never critisize them. If Rafer was on another team, everyone would think he was a scrub, but since he is on the rockets, everyone overrates him. The rockets need more pieces. simple as that. We can critisize them as much as we want because they have yet to prove they can hang with the elite, there is room for improvement

If we had acquired a quality pg last off season I'm sure we would be on our way to the Finals.

It seems like the Rockets will go all out to try and get James this offseason.

Man we better not go out in the first round...but if we do, the only upside is JVG probably won't be renewed if that happens.

I am not so sure about that. I think Les might be satisfied with a good record, a good number of sellouts, and I also think JVG buying those tickets and basically starting the Red Rowdies was a smart move.

I think JVG will get renewed regardless. Unless the team folds completely in the playoffs.

I don't think management will be happy with a first round exit. Les has said many times this year, just making the playoffs isn't enough. If it was, JVG would have gotten a contract extension a long time ago.
