We are essentially adding 3 (former)all-stars to last years playoff team for free

Yao - The best center in the NBA coming back from injury and from the looks his play during the olympics, he should be the same.

Artest - Was an all-star and DPOY and coming off one of the best statistical years of his career. We got him for 2 late first round draft picks and some pocket change.

Steve Francis - former perennial all-star. From the picture we have seen, he looks like he is in the best shape of his life. Even last year when he was fat and had a bum leg, he could get to the rim at will and elevate over the rim. This is a contract year for him, so he should be motivated.

If two of the three play up to expectations, we have to be a favorite for the finals. If all three play up to expectations, Uncle Les is going have to pony up so major dough to keep the championship team together.

Its been a long wait, but its a great time to be a rockets fan. I've been coming to this site since the beginning reading Super Mario's World articles, and I haven't been this excited about our chances since the Barkley trade.

Maybe we could sign Charles Oakley again and have four!

Francis is not a relevant addition to the team.

If Steve Francis plays up to my expectations, he'll occasionally get some burn during practice scrimmages.

i am really rooting for steve unlike certain people here who are rooting for him to fail like he stoled their wives or girlfriends or somethin... seeing him in that amazing shape he is in really hypes me up, he looks like the 1999 Steve Francis... hopefully he has recovered from that knee surgery.. from the looks of things, he has because its impossible to get that skinny without working your butt off...

I'm rooting for him because we need the PG help, but let's be realistic.

Francis looks like he is in great shape and the point of the post is that we getting him for nothing and everything he does is just bonus.

SF is a 3 time all-star, Artest has been picked once so I don't see why you shouldn't lump him in. SF has one hell of an opportunity this year, this is the best squad he has been on and his best chance to win a ring along with the contract year effect. Yes, I expect some good things from Steve this year.

Being in shape has nothing to do with francis. The guy is done!! If francis never played for the rockets no one would expect him to do anything, but since he did a lot of people are living in dreamland about him.

okay, then lets be realistic then... he's been injured with tendonitis the past two years, didnt get surgery done because he was scared... but this summer he finally had surgery on them, and he is extremely motivated because if he wasnt motivated, he wouldnt have lost all that weight.. francis is coming back much healthier than he has been the last two years and francis is coming back from the looks of things in the best shape of his life... that is definetely something to look forward to because the possible good news outweights the possible bad news.. and plus he is only 31, people make it sound like he is in the age bracket of dikembe mutombo and mark jackson... now, if he didnt get surgery done this summer, he would definetely peform like he is in that age bracket... and i would definetely agree that he would be irrelevant... but just looking at how good of a shape his body is even inspires me to start working out myself... you dont lose all that pounds just by dieting, steve's been working out like crazy...

People, look up the defintion of the word "skinny" before you use it to describe an athlete like Francis. I've seen this done a number of times. In his optimal condition, Francis is built almost like an NFL running back. Okay, maybe not a running back but he sure as heck ain't skinny.

The following are synonyms for "skinny" taken straight out of a thesaurus: bony, cadaverous, emaciated, lank, lanky, lean, malnourished, scant, scrawny, skeletal, slender, spare, tabescent, thin, underweight

You could make the argument that Tayshaun Prince is skinny, but not Steve Francis. Angelina Jolie is skinny.

Furthermore, few if any people in here really know what kind of condition Steve is in "from seeing him" or "from the looks of things". Yea, he looked pretty good in some of those pictures of him at a nightclub but the true test will be on the court.

Mr. "From the Looks of Things" based on 2 pictures from a nightclub. You do sound pretty obsessed with Steve's body though. That's for sure. You also like to describe male athletes as "skinny". I usually hear that word used by women.

And I'm not always negative... I'm just not a cheerleader like you. You weren't seriously a marine, were you?

Banking on 82-game health from Yao and Tracy, as well as Francis returning from a multi-year hiatus from All-Star status seems dubious at best to me.

That said, I like the potential of this team. We could be right there with the Lakers and Hornets at the top of the West, especially if the Spurs continue to age.

The critical key, still, is whether McGrady plays at his fullest potential in the spring and Yao joins. Lose Yao to another lower extremity injury and/or McGrady's game continues to diminish, and we're paper tigers again.

I am holding out next to no hope that Francis plays worth a salt.

    Evan
