Wayne Winston (author of Mathletics) is a pioneer of adjusted +/-, one of those metrics that lots of teams make use of these days including, no doubt, the Rockets.

    From last October:

Maybe in addition to Miller's closed relationship with Adelman, this was a factor for the Rockets.

Miller pretty much had a neutral impact on the Bulls last season.

    Offense - ON: 104.5, OFF: 105.2
    Defense - ON: 106.0, OFF: 106.6

Overall net points per 100 possessions was 0.0.

something tells me there's much more number crunching involved to get the true impact of a player....and i think some of those numbers will include the fact that the bulls got worse last year as a team and werent that great to begin with (with or without miller).

If he does that for us against the Lakers during the times he is relieving Yao I will be ecstatic.

This is written by the guy who runs ShamSports. He's also a Bulls fan.

The OP is over relying on stats. Brad Miller will be better than Andersen, but he can't be a real difference maker.
He is making the argument over the last decade whereas we are getting the Brad Miller of last year. It's like saying Glen Rice was a great player, before he came to Houston. Miller will be a bit better than Glen IMO,but his argument is flawed.

That guy is saying Miller should've received 2 yrs, $7m. With the partial guarantee, we essentially have an option to make it 2 yrs, $11m.

While there's still a sizable difference between those 2 contracts, I don't think it's too far off. We're essentially dropping an extra 1.5-2m per year on Miller -- that much to me is more than worth the piece of mind of having a reliable backup 5. Especially when you consider "cheaper" options like David Andersen run you 2.5m per year.

Let's hope that was a fluke. He had his worst year and it was just once. Perhaps he will workout this offseason like never before and return to his old self. Which even just the year before last was pretty damn good. If he can perform like that for just 15-20 minutes a night he will be a bargain.

Not completely useless but so many outside factors work into it, like who is on your team, who are you playing against.

What argument do you think the OP is making? Please reread the first post before answering.

I think it would have been quite different for next season if he stayed in Chicago especially with Tom Thibodeau as the new HC.

Rockets defensive rating last year was worse than Miller's 108. Their offensive rating was higher at 107.6, but I'd imagine Chuck Hayes didn't have a lot to do with that.

Plus, I'd imagine Rick Adelman would be a lot better at utilizing Miller than Chicago and their all-Rose-all-the-time offense.

So is points-per-game, but that doesn't stop people from using it all the time.

Honestly Brad Miller was the best freeagent available as of right now so I think we should be happy we at least got something this offseason. And we got to keep all our guys so that was another positive this offseason. Still think we need to trade a few assets and try to snag a star or semi star player.

I think the purpose is to have his position set. That C spot has troubled us for years and we never had a young player take that spot in those two years. Now Morey can work his magic in favor of the allstar type player that can probably net us another athletic Center.
