Wasn't Wesley the dude who was racing his Porcshe against one of his team mates in his Porcshe going like 80 miles over the speed limit? The other dude whose name escapes me flipped over and was killed. I thought the other guy was real good player and Wesley was a back up at that time. Do I have the story right? Can someone fill in the blanks?
Yeah, it was Wesley. Bobby Phills is who was killed. http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/basketball/nba/news/2000/01/18/phills_folo_ap/
Wesley and Phills were both starting at the time. They played three guards, like us... Wesley, Phills, and Eddie Jones.
Wow that slipped past me! I fergot all about that... I dont think anyone could fergot even if your a basketball player or a house wife...
I remember that there were a number of stories about a year afterwards about how much that had changed Wesley and made him rethink his life, focus, and work harder. I imagine that it still haunts him when he thinks about it. Phills was a true self made player. He had a bit of the "Mario Elie" in him, but was a better skills guy. Great defender and a good team guy.
I kinda remember something vaguely, so sorry if I'm off base but I don't think I am. Anyways, I remember watching something on Wesley where he stated that everytime he on the floor he's playing for Phils or alluded to something like he's there representing Phills.
Thanks for clearing that up...I was just thinking about that during last night's game. Thinking man, that must really haunt him everyday. When was that? 2000?
On NBA TV when they had that show about the N.O. Hornets training camp they mentioned that David Wesley always wears Boby Phills's shorts under his own.....I think I remember that correctly..
