The Wizards have fired head coach Eddie Jordan, according to a report by the Washington Post on Monday morning. Ed Tapscott, who had carried the title of Director of Player Development but traveled with the team and essentially served as an extra assistant coach, will take over coaching duties. The Wizards have opened the season with a 1-10 record. link i was gonna start shooting my mouth off about how this guy is one of the best offensive coaches in the league, but i want to wait for A_3PO to weigh in on this first
Jordan was a much better coach when he had Arenas and Haywood in his lineup. I hope some other team gives him a chance soon.
I don't have much to say except that 1-10 speaks for itself. They had to do something (I guess ). Unlike PJ Carlesimo, EJ is a good coach who did well with the talent he had. Injuries killed that team over the years. The Wizards have now officially given up on their season. If I were a Wizards fan, I'd be ticked off pretty bad. Wrong move IMO.
yeh i would say its unfair. To me, injury is clearly the biggest problem of the wiz, not the coach. Plus the thing is the wizards has been pretty competitive, despite the horrible record. I think the lone team they have beaten is the Jazz, if i'm not mistaken.
Wouldn't be surprised to see him back this year even. The Knicks should let D'antoni coach at Washington until 2010 while they tank.
tough luck for this guy, he is a good coach, but if your players keep getting injured, there is not much you can do with no talents left.
Well it's a shame. Unavoidable to be honest. It's also time to trade Arenas and his star co. They're going nowhere, and they're going to waste their best years on literally nothing. If they continue like this, it'll be a Timberwolve Garnett incident, except with a bigger talent pool. Still, I don't get that boneheaded deal on Arenas. He is good, but locking him up with that contract was completely stupid. Not to mention Jamison, the 32 year old becoming an-injury-prone-player. The wizards are stuck in a bad bad spot. But they don't seem to have a plan or even an idea on how to progress. The big contract signings, then the firing of a coach early in the season.
He has yet to institute any semblance of a half-court offense in his time here. It was time to go. He was "at his best" with Arenas, Jamison, and Hughes all going 1-on-1, and then when Butler replaced Hughes, they ran the same offense with those 3. They're all good 1-on-1 players and poor defenders, so even at their best/healthiest, they would be an upper-level mediocre Eastern Conf team, with a chance at the 2nd round based on matchup...but that's it. If they were in the West, they'd be 1-and-done or more likely out of the playoffs. Eddie needs to go, and they need to get a better mix to players
You know, I'm not going to defend him like a lot of others here. He was fantastic in New Jersey instituting the Princeton motion offense, but IMO failed in the worst way in Washington. Every single year was the same thing, foregoing an actual team motion offense (passing! cutting!) for a Francis-era Rockets "My turn now" offense. His Wiz got into the playoffs each year since they had decent enough talent to get 41 to 45 wins each year in the East (but really, how impressive is that), and proceeded to get bounced each time because they have no concept of team play: offense or defense. The Cleveland LeBrons can get away with that, but not the Washington Arenas. Litmus Test Question: did the Wizards play above, below, or at their talent level? As far as I've seen, they've always been a semi-organized mess. You can't play pick up ball and win in the postseason. Evan
Horrible move. You're missing an All-Star PG(Arenas) and a very underrated defensive presence inside(Haywood). His high energy backup is just coming off heart surgery after nearly having his career ended(Etan Thomas) and your starting PG wasn't even in the league last year(Dee Brown). They make us look like a team full of Cal Ripkens and AC Greens. What do they expect the guy to do!?
He sealed his fate by losing to the Knicks on Saturday. Got beat by 7 guys and allowed them to score 122 points after the Knicks lost their 2 biggest scorers Zebo and Crawford. He just couldn't get these guys to play defense. If you listened to Worrell during Fridays game, he kept saying Jamison wasn't guarding anybody.
You guys have to tell me how he was a good coach. In my limited experience of watching the Wizards' game, I see that: 1) They scarely play defense. 2) Their offense consists of the 1st guy down throwing up a jump shot. Either that or they pass the ball around the perimeter and have guys running the so called Princeton offense which is nothing more than guys running circle around the perimeter until one of them decides it's his time to jack up a shot or drive and make something up.
