I guess those two would be competing with T-Mass and Pig for the final two roster spots -
is that right? I'd go with T-Mass over Washington, because T-Mass does have some offense to go with his strong D, though I like Washington's shot blocking. Really, couldn't Cato do the same things at the PF spot that Washington can with Hakeem or Collier at center, making Washington kind of redundant? T-Mass is a veteran and would help the young team grow, I would think.

I would like to see us keep Dench over Pig, cuz he can step in and do the same things Collier can if Collier gets injured or just doesn't get the job done. Dench has been doing pretty well on the boards (this is the only area Pig has him beat, but Dench has been a lot better than Washington), has an NBA center's body (unlike Pig or Tyronne), and can really hit the outside shot (something neither Pig or Tyronne can do), which is a rarity for a center and a real asset in the Rockets' offense.

.....so I would like to see Dench and TMass make the team over Washington and Pig, though I'd REALLY miss Pig's hustle. How come Pig isn't on the summer league team anyway? Does that say anything?

    Francis
    Moochie
    Anderson
    Mobley
    Walt
    Langhi
    Thomas
    Olajuwan
    Cato
    Collier
    T-Mass
    Dench

    IR
    Bullard - he's under contract

I would like Tyronne Washington to make this team. His offensive game is still raw (basically a hook shot and not much else), but his defensive game is very solid. Aside from challenging shots in the lane, he plays very good straight up defense. Washington is very strong and holds his position extremely well. He is the type of "banger" the Rockets need, and I think he could really develop his game working with Hakeem for a year. Axel Dench has a nice touch from the perimeter, but he is not the defensive "banger" this team needs. My biggest concern is that this frontline becomes too soft esp being in the Western Conference. I really like what I see defensively in Washington and hope he makes the team.

my main concern is defense. Right now, we have 3 good defensive players: Shandon, Cato, and Hakeem. Hakeem won't be around after next season. Some people don't think Cato even has good defense. Our perimeter D is awful, and Shandon's carrying a HUGE burden. It'd be one thing if the rest of our team was filled with average defenders, but the majority of the rest are liabilities. We also lack toughness, you can get away with not having a ton of bruisers if you're very athletic, but we're not very deep in quality players up front (a la Milwaukee), just a ton of mediocre players. If you made me pick one, I'd go with Washington, but I don't think either will get significant PT even if they make the team.

oakdogg-You forgot the scenario of "what if" Collier does very well? Then Dench would be redundent. Cato, as far as we've seen isn't nearly as physical as Washington.

I really think that Tony Massenburg can help the Rockets for several years if he is healthy. I wonder if some of us have forgotten that Tony was a starting NBA center who was in the top ten in field goal percentage just a couple of years ago. The guy can score in the paint, bang on defense, and rebound.

I hope that groin gets healed!

In trying to work out who makes the 15 (12+3 IL) I thought i would try the depth chart Option

    C- Cato, Dream, Pig, Collier
    PF- Thomas, Rodgers, Bull,
    SF- Langhi, Shandon, Walt
    SG- Shandon, Cat, Drew
    PG- Steve, Mooch, Drew, Cat

Assuming Cat signs, that gives us 14 players, under contract, and TMass, Dench, and Washington fighting for that last spot, I am assuming Tmass is not under contract.

Now if we work a trade for Drew or Walt or anyone that results in us giving away more players than we get back, then some more spots can open up for Tmass, Dench and Washington, but if we can't get rid of Drew or someone else and we sign Tmass, then there won't be a spot for either washington or my aussie boy Dench.

I don't believe Pig Miller has a guaranteed contract.

Pig, TMass, Dench, Washington for the last 2 spots.

It'd seem if that's case Dench has a decent shot of making the "Final 15" (Zwikker made it too [IMG]) Because he provides shooting the others don't, the others are the wide bodies (except for Washington, as he's athletic, point being they're all lane cloggers/shot blockers)

    Smegg, I like the following-

    C- Cato, Dream, Massenberg
    PF- KT, Rogers
    SF- Walt, Langhi, Bullard
    SG- Anderson, Cat
    PG- Francis, Norris,
IR- Drew (back), Collier (back), Pig (creative injury, a GREAT guy to have around)

I hope we can make a trade, and possibly lose Bullard and Drew. I like them both, but they don't figure in any future plans. Hopefully, Dench and Washington can be carried on IR if that occurs.

AAH! That PF duo scares me. Portland gets Brian Grant, Jermaine O'Neal, and Rasheed Wallace. Minnesota gets Kevin Garnett. San Antonio gets Tim Duncan. The Jazz get Karl Malone. And we get Kenny Thomas and Carlos Rogers? Yikes.

if the final spot is out of pig,t-mass,washington,and dench, then my pick is washington.pig deserves it but i think he would maybe be picked up by another team(maybe a contender).i just really like his defense,i mean he goes after those blocks with attitude.for dench i think we have enough big men that can shoot the outside shot.so i picked washington over t-mass.

Yeah, I can kind of see what y'all are saying about Washington, but the dude can't rebound!!!!!!!! You guys complain about Cato, and then praise Washington when he can't rebound in a SUMMER league game! If Washington makes the team, then I doubt TMass is re-signed, which I'm not necessarily in favor of, because TMass is a real defensive banger who can also rebound. Not to mention he can hit a jumper, something else Washington can't do.

Yeah, Dench is kind of redundant, but I don't think that's a bad thing from a twelfth man. A twelfth man's not going to get any PT when everyone's healthy, so he shouldn't bring a whole new facet to the team and make the offense change for him. If a big man goes down, Dench would be able to come in and fit in quite nicely. He's the prototypical big man for the Rox new look: big, rebounds well enough, and can hit the outside shot. Rudy T went out of his way to take a controversial pick with these exact same qualities in the first round, just because he fit in with our personnel. Why wouldn't he pick up Dench for next to nothing when he's proved he's pretty competent and has the same qualities. As it's been shown on this board before, NBA-sized centers with 3 pt. range are not that easy to find.

The summer league games really arent a good indicator of whether or not Washington can rebound imho. He has not gotten enough consistent PT to really show whether or not he can board. I had heard that rebounding is one of his strengths along with defense so I want to wait and see on that.

His Italian stats aren't that impressive in the rebounding department. I remember Venson Hamilton looked like Dennis Rodman next to him. [IMG] I also remember somebody saying that Rudy said he wanted to see TWash rebound. I don't know if Rudy's seeing what I'm seeing, but I certainly haven't seen him rebound. The defense is nice, but I think TMass would be a better presence on the team. I think it would be nice to have an older, experienced defensive banger in the frontcourt like an Antoine Carr, a Charles Oakley, or a Tony Massenburg. Correct me if I'm wrong but Jelani McCoys, Ernest Browns, and Tyronne Washingtons appear to be a dime-a-dozen anyway.

I think Washington could be a really big asset for this team. If we don't get Bo Outlaw then he's our man! Cato and Washington in the lane scares me (in a good way) I think it would scare everyone drivin it in!

Other than Cato, Langhi, and Olajuwon, the Houston front-line needs an upgrade.

With Thomas, Massenburg, Williams, Rogers, and the exception, Houston should work a trade for some reliable power players.

Doleac, Miller, and Harpring could become available. Brad Miller is a (restricted) free agent. And I still contend that Montross could provide some interior presence.
