I'm sure this is the wrong source to go to, but I figured it was definitely worth a shot. My wife and I are in the market for a new Washer and Dryer, and I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions for where to go and what to get. We're sort of waffling back and forth on whether to get an economy combo (or even a garage sale number!) or to splurge and go for a high end model that will last a long time. Any ideas?
Sears has a scratch and dent place in SE Houston. Likely not as cheap as a garage sale, but somewhat more reliable. (I once bought an iron from a garage sale for something like $5. They were moving out of the city and were selling a bunch of their stuff. I got home with it, plugged it in and found that it didn't work. What kind of loser sells a broken iron at a garage sale?)
The Sears Kenmore stuff bring good quality for the price. Most are actually manufactured by Whirlpool under the Kenmore label.
Kenmore stuff kicks ass. We have my parents' old washer and dryer, both Kenmores and they are still going strong in their 15th year of operation. Whirlpool is also good.
we brought the kenmore elite front loaders, they use less water and can swallow all my jeans in one load.
Dang. Anyone have any experience with GE? They have a pretty good deal on some washer/dryer combos at Sam's Club, and we were leaning that way. It seems like everyone we talk to has a Kenmore/Whirlpool, and everyone seems happy. But I wonder if that's because it's a Kenmore, or because people just don't have problems with their washer/dryers that often...
if you want to go the cheap route, hit me up through email and i will sell you my old washer and dryer. My thoughts are in the neighborhood of $40-50 dollars for both. they are the low end, but are only a couple of years old.
Yep, front-enders pay for themselves after a few years. If you can afford the initial investment, that's the way to go.
My wife and I bought low to mid-level Whirlpools last November. We did the same search of Greensheets/Used and decided just to go with new ones - they've worked very well so far.
http://www.fatwallet.com/forums/messageview.php?catid=18&threadid=322565 Found this on Fatwallet. Looks like a good deal if you have a Costco membership and don't mind sending in rebates.
I'll tell you this much. Washer and Dryers last forever so don't buy any extended warranties and buy what you really want because you will have them until you retire.
Unfortunately I live in Utah so I can't take you up on the local deal. (or I might consider it) On the other hand, I'll definitely check out that Costco deal. My best friend has a Costco card.
