Was McGrady's micro-fracture surgery a blessing in the skyes saving us from VC?

The word was that McGrady got the microfracture to stop a VC/McGrady trade. Now... it probably would have been nice to have VC along with Yao, Artest, etc. in the 2009 playoffs, and he might even have gotten the Rockets enough wins to get into the 2010 playoffs in Yao's absence-- but then again that might mean less minutes for Ariza (maybe no signing Ariza), Budinger, Martin, etc. And, as we saw, we can't be sure VC will be good in the playoffs against a good defense.

Anyhow, I can't help thinking maybe the Rockets dodged a silver bullet on that one. VC has 2 more years left right now at pretty hefty salary. I don't think he's worth the paper he's printed on right now and frankly, I am not sure the Rockets would have been that much better off this past season with him. It seems the basketball gods stepped in to save Morey from himself on that one.

I'm glad the trade didn't happen but It's still douchey that McGrady pulled that move.

He lost all my respect from there on out.

Well, that's assuming that we were going to trade for Vince. Given that Morey always seems to pull his moves out of absolutely nowhere, I doubt it.

And some people tried to say that McGrady wasn't a team-first kinda guy. Shame on all of you!

Who knows, maybe the Rockets could've beaten the Lakers with Carter and go on to win it all.

We'd be beating a dead horse arguing about whether he got the injury for the sole purpose of throwing his teammates under the bus, and whether they all hate him, whether he is the Devil incarnate, etc etc...

But he probably did us a blessing in the skyes by getting the surgery so we could stop the revolving door dramatic crap. The dude's mind is shot. He tells himself he is mentally hurt. I'm glad it's all gone.

    Was it?

Had that trade happened we may have played a different team (not Portland), Yao may have not gotten hurt (who knows maybe something occured that we don't know of in LA or Portland), and maybe we win the title (I honestly like the chances of Artest, VC, Yao combo).

But really it is really all guessing.

As it worked out I'm ok with what happened (because Morey pulled off some of his magic tricks getting a lot of value for Tmac + Landry), but who knows what could've happened in 2009.

I agree. It's great to try to find a silver lining and all, but there's not much good that came out of TMac's demise in Houston.

Don't think so. The Nets gave VC up for very little, but they allegedly demanded quite a lot from DM. The Rockets ended their pursuit of him.

Doubt it, if VC couldn't help that Magic team get past the Celtics I doubt he would have helped us go farther than we did...ONLY if somehow the acquisition of VC meant Yao not getting hurt.

God yes it was a blessing. McGrady acted like a vuh jay jay sometimes, but his cousin is on a whole 'nother level. Carter's play against the Celtics was appalling. Only Rashard Lewis looked worse in these playoffs.

T-Mac sacrificed his own career to help the Rockets.

He is the epitome of a "team first" kind of guy.

I actually think T-Mac getting surgery was a blessing. If he didn't Walsh might not have given us Hill and the Martin trade might not have happened. From a statiscal outlook, McGrady is garbage, not even averaging 10ppg.
