Simple question: should Brooks have been suspended longer and/or removed from the rotation? Aaron Brooks walked out on the Rockets with 6+ minutes left in the fourth quarter. He flat out quit on our team during crunch time against a team we need to leapfrog to make the playoffs. Is a one game suspension enough? Would further punishment just make the situation worse? Rick Adelman weighs in: http://twitter.com/Jonathan_Feigen/status/34781034138574850
I'm pretty sure he wasn't getting back into the game, but I think the suspension was a fair suspension. He won't be seeing much time when he gets back anyways.
No not enough..no one just leaves and quits on ur team in a close game that goes to overtime..what classes idiot..he obviously doesn't want to be here so I'd be surprised if he gets any playing time before he gets traded...look for ish to take all of his minutes...
If you want to trade him and you want to maximize what you can get for him in that trade, you should make as light of the situation as possible. Adelman says they talked and Brooks saw the error of his ways and will turn over a new leaf. He puts him back in the rotation as before and keeps giving him chances to get his groove back. Brooks cooperates because the value of his next contract depends on it. If everything works out, Brooks recovers his game and he gets traded for something worthwhile. If it doesn't work, his value isn't much worse than it is now.
What do you mean by "punishment"? A one-game suspension is fairly standard for this type of insubordination. But having to work his way back into the rotation is not what I would call "punishment". He was already playing poorly. If Adelman no longer wants to give Brooks the benefit of the doubt based on this incident, that's just normal basketball. The fact is, Courtney Lee may very well deserve to play minutes over Brooks. Adelman had confidence in Brooks (despite his poor performances) and continued to give him some undeserved minutes. That might change now. But it's not punishment. It's just coaching.
The options of the poll are kind of misleading, since we won't know if earning his PT back will be part of the deal yet. I want his minutes decreased, then if we start nosediving to the lottery, play him a lot and let him increase his trade value then ship his a55 in the offseason or early next year.
I think they are playing it by the ear as far as actually playing. Adelman says he'll decide after talking to Brooks today. As far as suspension (which costs him a game check, I think), I think 1 game is enough. AB is a bit of a hot head, and has been disgrunted this year, but he never got in any kind of trouble and has never been malicious. I don't think you need to ostracize him from the team or anythng. I am annoyed at AB mostly for his poor play (not just poor shooting, but also poor decision making and what seems to be even worse D than he played in the past). But I really don't think he's intentionally trying to play bad (what sense does that make?) and playing badly is no reason to suspend a guy or else Ryan Bowen would have been suspended for months at a time.
I think it was fine. We really need to have him on the court so he can hopefully start playing better and build a little more trade value. I fully expect him to be gone by the deadline.
Based on play alone, Lee should be seeing a chunk of Brooks' minutes anyways. I don't think it should have anything to do with the insubordination. I think he owes an apology to his teammates, the coaching staff, the owner, the GM, and the fans though for quitting on the team. If that doesn't humble him up real quick, I don't know what would. I think twisting a lack of playing time into being some form of further punishment would be a folly in my opinion, since it implies that his play on the court doesn't warrant a decrease in minutes. I think the two should be held exclusive from each other.
Ha -- call it what you want to, it's the same thing! If he doesn't immediately return to the rotation, it isn't because Courtney Lee is suddenly playing all-world and deserves his minutes. It's because he walked out on the team. Aaron Brooks has been given the benefit of the doubt from Adelman -- perhaps that benefit is now rescinded as 'punishment' for his latest actions. Yeah, I was operating under the assumption that he would return to the rotation.
Yeah! Because we trying to win some more games ya heard? JK But really, no. A one game suspension seems fair. Theoritcally, its not worst than fighting but technically, its the absolute worst thing you can do to your orginazation, teammates, and coach.
One game suspension is Fair. What do you want? Suspend for the rest of the season? I thought you people don't like Stern.
I don't want to see AB in the rotation anymore, but it has nothing to do with punishing him. I just think the team will play better without him. I'd like to see him get traded and have the opportunity to flourish again...and for us to get something good in return.
