The Warriors have offered free agent Elton Brand a five-year deal worth between $85 and $90 million, according to league sources.

Brand, like Baron Davis, opted out of the final year of his contract just before Monday's deadline, giving up a guaranteed $16.4 million for next season.

At the time, Brand's agent, David Falk, told reporters that the move was designed to create some cap flexibility for the Clippers to add another top-line player.

The most the Clippers can offer Brand is a five-year deal worth about $70 million due to salary-cap restrictions - about $20 million less than the Warriors.

Brand, who had been close to re-signing with the Clippers, is expected to make a decision today.

i doubt he goes there nellie plays a style of ball he probably would like too much.

besides he likes LA and has already said he would stay here if they were able to get help and they brought in davis.

probably just to get back at the clippers.

lol this is indeed funny. Imagine if Baron were stuck on the Clippers by himself. Ouch.

Some where in Sacramento the Tru Warrior is punching his fist through a wall for not opting out.

oh man, it is really funny. Warriors are really frustrated, it was painful to lose Baron.

Now they answered. But 85-90 milion dolars for Elton Brand. Are you kidding me? What the hell is going on,

    lol artest.

Bonzi + Artest = Bonehead Brothers.

It would be pretty funny if Brand signs with the Warriors. I wouldn't mind, either. Depletes both the Clippers and Warriors and makes the west a little easier for us.

This is an act of desperation by the Warriors. For them, BD for $85MM makes a lot more sense than Brand for $85MM.

They are crumbling and will be an irrelevant team this coming season. BD opting out and going to the Clips shish-kebabed them.

I wonder if Golden state will make a run at Jameson to try and land Arenas in the process.

I think Brand worth even more than $90m. He was a MVP candidate a season ago and much more durable than BD.

It'll be hilarious if he accepts the Warriors offer because Baron will be stuck on a crappy team...although, Baron hasn't "signed" anything yet.

On a related note, the July 9 thing the NBA has set-up is r****ded...creates so much unnecessary speculation when everybody is busy making deals regardless.

I assume this is a PR move to show fans they are trying and not a serious attempt to pick up Brand. Brand opted out so the LAC could sign Baron Davis and they could play together. Why on earth would he change teams? Maybe if they could offer Baron and Brand both the same contracts LAC is offering they'd have a chance. But, I don't think they can.

Golden State picked up Brendan Wright last year for Jason Richardson, so maybe he'll start to mature. Monta Ellis is going to be a badass and Steven Jackson and Al Harrington are still there. Golden State will be find without Baron.

I know what you're saying and I agree with your points...

...but $20 Million extra. Just saying, if it was me it'd be tough to turn down.

I hope he stays with the Clips. It would be so Boozer of him to sign up for GS. Who knows though.. maybe he's got jerk that we don't know about.

I can't decide on which level is this the most hilarious. Because they signed BD? Because Brand isn't worth half that? Because he would fry in that system?
