Warren Zevon was David Letterman's only guest last night and the show was really, really moving. As many of you know, Zevon was recently diagnosed with terminal cancer. He has been a guest and filled in for Paul Schaeffer on Letterman many times over the years. I was particularly touched by Letterman last night. You could tell having Warren on the show was important to him and that he really loved his work. There were some moments between them that were just heartbreaking..you can tell than they think a lot of each other. Warren's stoicism and black humor in the face of all of this is inspiring, but not surprising given the tone of his work over the years. Did anybody else see this?
I did and it was a great show. I'm not a huge WZ fan, but I like some of his stuff and just to see them together, for possibly the last time was touching. I'm glad to see that WZ has come to terms with this and can joke about it...
Broke my heart. Broke my ****ing heart. I'm just glad I got to see him while he was at the top of his game. Last night, voice issues or terminal illness or otherwise, he was brilliant. Golden. God bless him.
