Ward cut by Suns Ward released by Suns one day after trade Added: 6th January, 2004 10:52 PM ET Associated Press: PHOENIX (AP) Charlie Ward was waived by the Phoenix Suns on Tuesday, one day after they acquired him in an eight-player trade that sent Stephon Marbury to the New York Knicks. Ward, a 10-year NBA veteran, had been with the Knicks his entire career. He had a clause in his contract allowing it to be bought out before Jan. 10. The Suns have said they plan to keep Antonio McDyess, Howard Eisley, Maciej Lampe and Milos Vujanic, whose rights they acquired from the Knicks along with two first-round draft picks. The league office gave Marbury, Penny Hardaway and Cezary Trybanski clearance to play in the Knicks' game Tuesday night against Cleveland just 30 minutes before tipoff after the completion of physical exams for the players traded to Phoenix. Hello Mr Ward...Its only a matter of time Baby...... Move along people nothing to see hear... The only real question is whether he will start or come off the bench???? Does Stevie move to the 2 or what????? Its gettin interesting folks.....stay tuned..................
David Aldride on Nba Fastbreak said that its's between Houston and San Antonio and he would be signed today or tommorow. He said Houston "really' wants him but that S.A. could be his choice.
Didn't they have a few weeks to retain Ward until his contract stuck? Couldn't the Suns have used the PG help until Barbar-o-osaerna gets it together?
What on earth does "contract stuck" mean? He was the property of the Suns as soon as the ink was dry on the paperwork. If the Suns wouldn't have waived Ward by January 10, they had to pay his full contract for the remainder of the season. By waiving him, the will pay only a portion with the team picking him paying a pro-rated amount.
I understand that, I just thought the 1-10 deadline was actually closer towards the end of the month ...
Now you've realy got me confused. The tenth of any month usually falls somewhere near the beginning of that month! It appears now you meant the date that his contract became fully the responsibility of the Suns.
My point exactly.......All the more reason to insert Mr Ward who graduated with an A+ and Honors from the JVG School of Baskeball
I just thought the date was 1-25 or something like that ... I'm not huge on the 'Colangelo's are gunna sell' bandwagon (they've been running things for 35 years, hard to split now), but I was wondering why they'd give up on the services of Ward so soon. Knowing now that the cut date is 1-10, I reckon it makes sense ...
As sick as this sounds, if I'm the Spurs, I don't touch him. Parker seems like the sensitive type, I dig Hart's game, why mess with things? I know the team is thinking about June, but shouldn't they be thinking about how badly Rick Brunson and Chris Childs outplayed Ward in June of 1999?
