Obviously no surcharge is the best option, but like I stated a few weeks ago, I purchased my first ATM machine and placed it in a very high traffic location. It has done exactly 96 transactions so far and monday will be my 2 weeks. I have been charging $2.75 and that doesn't seem to bother people to this point. I've been researching around online and many other cities have an average charge $3.50-$5.00.

So the question I pose is, considering the numbers I've given should I shoot up to $3.25 or $3.50 or just stick around $2.75. This location is a convenience store near hobby airport and from the transaction log has been about 90% out of towners. So repeat business does not seem likely, so a ripoff price won't likely hurt me. Is $3.50 steep? Looking for opinions

If I saw a service charge 3 dollars or more, I would go somewhere else. However, if lots of out of towners are using it, they might be used to those amounts. Maybe you should try 3 and see if your transaction rate declines.

If I came across your ATM or any ATM for that matter with an surcharge of 3.75 USD or higher, I would physically punch your ATM. Yes, there would be an indentation of my fist on the screen of your ATM when you show up in the morning to collect your devil money.

What would be the easiest way for a person to steal one of your ATM machines?

I haven't seen an ATM with a service fee of under $3 in some time.

I have checking accounts with Wells Fargo and Ally. My Wells Fargo ATM card I only use in Wells Fargo ATMs. Being an online bank, Ally refunds ATM fees - meaning I usually use their ATM card (even at Wells Fargo) and don't think twice about the service fee.

Actually don't physically collect money, it's deposited into my bank account on the 10th of each month. I've read around that many major banks are trying $4-$5. I'm at $2.75 right now and am at nearly 100 transactions in 12 days so that's why I was stuck on whether to go up or stay at this price point.

I voted $3.50 before even reading your post. Not a bad way to make some money, never even thought of owning an ATM. If you don't mind, how does someone get into something like that? Also, what would the costs be?

I would shoot it up on the out of towners, at least 3.25/3.50.

Basically find an existing privately owned ATM and it will have a sticker on it for the processing company, contact them, they will sell you the machine at cost usually. My machine was $2,100 brand new, a refurbished one could have been had for $1,500. Anyways, from there all you do is sign a contract with processing company, set your surcharge, and hand over a voided check so they can set the money to go into your bank account.

Money withdrawn from machine is deposited into your bank account every other day, friday-sunday all comes in on tuesday. I personally don't keep much in the machine out of fear of theft, so I reload it every other day or whenever my online portal tells me it has $500 or less, but I live close by.

So far with 96 transactions at $2.75 in under 2 weeks, I'm looking at possibly $600+ net first month, possibly more if I go up in price like some are suggesting here. I am strongly considering $3.50 but may just do $3.25

Not bad at all my friend, is there a cost for the processing company, or is the company giving you the service for free if you buy their machine? There's a theater with an average of 500-900 guests daily, and they don't have an ATM. I'm also assuming a part of your ATM fee will go toward the convenience store to compensate for space and electricity.

I remember your other thread about this. How much would rent be to place one in someones store? I'm assuming its a lot higher since its a busy area.

the convenience store belongs to my uncle so I don't pay him rent. He had an ATM previously and they paid him 20% of monthly net, not including surcharge(backend charge processing co makes). The processing is free but they make a cut of the $1.50-$2 on the backend split between the banks. If you want to send me your email through the board, I will get in touch with you. If you're not interested in getting an ATM at that theater if the costs are too high about $4-5K needs to be in the machine if you don't check it daily, then I'd love to discuss it with you bc like I stated earlier law school is about to start and I'm trying to put an ATM in all my uncle's stores and this was my test unit.

If law school is about to start, when will you find the time to service the machines?

They don't need "servicing", basically my uncle checks all his stores daily and has told me he can stock all my machines if I expand all his stores with the $20 bills that are in the safe before he takes them to the bank each day and I can simply cut him a check to match the deposits

Do you or your uncle pack heat when reloading the machine?

Seems like a decent business to get into to generate a little side cash.

My dream job (not really) is to own one of those pay parking lots downtown. Almost zero maintenance. Your only job is to collect the money.
