Hey guys I have an Ipod photo and it is covered in the best buy warranty. I wanted to know a way to " mess it up" and have it still covered so I can get the ipod video out of it. Any ideas, past experience, or best buy employees that could help me out with some tips ?

How long have you had it? Why don't you simply try taking it to the store in the box, and seeing if you can exchange it for what will be a more expensive model. Don't know if that will work, if it's been a while, but I exchanged a nano for a 30GB video, and then returned that and bought a 60GB. (which I love!) Give it shot. And I got them at Best Buy.

Does it have to be "messed up??"

Umm, couldn't Best Buy just replace your iPod with a refurbed iPod Photo? So, risking voiding your warranty doesn't make much sense does it... especially when you're just making it harder for the rest of us honest folks.

I mean, stepping on a cell phone because you want a new one under warranty is one thing. The phone companies are running a total scam. But plain old iPod envy... that's lame.

Besides, I love my 3G ipod, even if it isn't sexy and color video-playing. Down with the click-wheel!

Just take it back and say the scroll wheel, earphones, or other input, etc doesn't work "intermittently". If they test it, then this happens to be one of the times that it is working.
It is very difficult to troubleshoot an intermittent issue, even if you knwo what you are doing. Chances are the "i know how to trobleshoot an iPod" group will not include the asshats at Best Buy.

This is the kind of reason everyone else has to jump through BS when we have to deal with retail/warrantees/policy.

    ummm... that's not cool.

We may help each other out with a lot of things on this board, but not when it's unethical or illegal.

screwing over best buy and walmart is not unethical. its community service.

ok, best thing to do is to let your harddrive crash, and take it to best buy for a fixup, and if im not mistaken after 3 times, they have to give you a new one.

Oh I know. Its painful to go in there and try to shop. It is either some pimple faced high school nerd that plays games or some fat r****ded old man that got tired of working at the gas station so he went to ITT Tech and got A+ certified. now he is the all knowning techno wizard.

I was in there a while back looking at a new bluetooth ear piece because I know I was getting a new phone.

He asked what kind of phone that I had.

I'm getting the new Cingular pda phone.

What brand of phone is it?

    Cingular.

No, thats the phone carrier, I meant who makes the phone?

It is Cingular, they are making the phone.

No they aren't, they are he carrier. They only do service.

Whatever, go away I don't need your help.

It sounds like you do because you think Cingular makes the phone you want to buy.

At this point I'm ready to beat the **** out of him. I asked him if there is a computer there that has outside internet access. We go to it and I show him the damn phone on the internet. CINGULAR MAKES THE ****ING PHONE DOUCHE NUTS. LEARN TO SHUT YOUR ****ING MOUTH WHEN YOU DONT KNOW WHAT YOU ARE TALKING ABOUT. THAT BLUE SHIRT DOESN'T MAKE YOU RIGHT.

Here is how to mess up an ipod. You swallow it, and crap it out.

The phone will be messed up. Go get your ipod video.

Your colonoscopic surgery will be the punishment for your dishonesty on Earth.

Hell will be your punishment for afterlife.

My favorite is being in a 40 person line at Best Buy with two registers open and half a dozen employees standing around talking behind the registers.

i've been using an iaudio g3 for about 3 weeks and i am loving it! voice recorder, fm radio, lyrics display, works with any computer, 95 dB SNR.

give it a shot you guys. if you dont like the unsexy G3, try the other ones like U3 or A2.

From what I understand, you can just say its messed up and they take it. They give you credit for the full amount you originally paid. Just tell them it freezes up on occasion.
