Guys, this is the much anticipated Smeg World Tour Hoop It Up Classic. Come see the Australian with no basketball skills. The big question is how many people want to play and do you mind paying for a good court like UofH which is 6$ per person. heypartner has more details on some of the venues, we need to get a good count of who wants to play and if they want to pay. We are going to try and make the game early that day to fit in the Fan Appreciation Day picnic afterwards and the Rockets vs Seattle Fan Appreciation Day game that night. For more information on the Fan Appreciation Day/Smeg World Tour event, go here. Want to be cool and get a Smeg World Tour T-Shirt? Go here. Hurry t-shirt orders must be in by March 16th! (this Sunday) Date: Saturday April 12th (early in the day) Location: Undecided yet... This is your chance to get schooled, don't waste it! Choices 1. Rice's free outdoor courts with picnic tables right there, an excellent frisbee golf course, and smokers/grills/kegs at Valhalla. This is probably the easiest and cheapest alternative, but an outdoor court with no cover and it risks rain. Also, parking as proven to be elusive ever since Rice started gating their lots. 2. UofH rec center for $6 (but B is worried about too many people). This would have to have the picnic at an entirely different location. Great court, familiar to everyone, easy to find, by not an all-in-one location solution. 3. Stude Park Community Center rented for just us for ~$50/hour, which is $6 for 3 hours for 25 players. This is privately rentable, perfectly redone floor, awesome court. It would be guaranteed to just be us. This is the same quality of court that Jeff mentioned back in November. Grills and table are nearby and a big park along White Oak bayou/blvd with two softball fields and swimming pool (although I think it will be closed). The new Downtown Acquarium and Sabine Street frisbee golf course is roughly 5 minute drive from there. So Far: Sonny - 3 RM95 - 3 AntiSonic - 3 B - 3 DEANBCURTIS - 3 heypartner - 3?
Thx for starting this thread Sonny, as I've got too much on my plate to get a vote on this. Remember to RSVP for the picnic if you want food/drinks/beer, and you don't have a Section 208 ticket. It is $5 for those without a Section 208 ticket. Please RSVP in the thread Sonny mentioned here and email me. Lastly, if we sell 10 more tickets at face value, that lands us $350 versus the $120 we have now, as we kick into a $7 discount bracket versus $3. Seriously guys, help us sell 10 more tickets and money won't be an issue. I'll be able to buy Omaha Steaks and Omaha Marinated Chicken for everyone!!!! Have people email me for credit card purchase via paypal.
rockHEAD, AntiSonic, and any other responders who are familiar with Houston...would you like to vote on location?
You have MAD burger skills though! RM and AntiSonic - which option do you guys like? I am leaning towards #3 - our own private rented court.
I'll vote for option 3 if we can get a minimum of 20 people to commit. It's not going to be too cool if 10 people show up and we have to pay $15 each. My second vote would be for Rice or some other place. I do not think UH is a good option for the large group we may have. It will be a challenge getting 10-20 non UH students into the center. B
Ok, I got dibs guarding you. I need an oxygen mask like the one Dream used to have when they played in Denver. Speaking of which, Yao should get one of those.
heads-up, Stude Park Community Center will probably require a down payment to go with the paperwork to prove we have a legal security guard lined up. This option makes me a little nervous moneywise, so we really need to see at least 20 people show up *in this thread* willing to pay, or we need to sell 10 more Section 208 tickets and reallocate funds from the food fund....thus, please help spread the word and promote the game. I'm getting really jazzed about this!!
Sweet, that should make it a bit easier! Actually, I haven't played 5-on-5 in forever, so I may be better at that than 2-on-2.
We must stay close to each other and raise our arms up once in awhile so it looks like we're playing tight defense..and don't forget the Ron Artest scowl. Just don't move too much so we can conserve energy. And no backdoor cuts to the basket. This will only work if neither of us score.
What time? I probably won't leave Dallas until 1 at the earliest, and we're going to the Astros' game that night.
