It is being reported this morning that Wang Zhi Zhi is missing to both Mavs and China. May be defecting. He is possibly in L.A.

This is being reported on 1310 in dallas now

Wang said he wasn't going back when they called him back. He had a taste of american freedom and probably wants to stay. Just my guess though.

Very interesting stuff Crash...if this is true, I would imagine that it will only make it that much harder to sign yao

Good for Wang! China is not yet a free nation, and he has a duty to his countrymen to make an important political statement by defecting.

Is this true? Or did someone, somewhere, start a snowballing rumor?

Because, if it's true, China might not allow Yao Ming to come to the States.

If true this will influence the future of Ming in NBA ... Shouldn't affect Huston too much though since you always can pick Jay Williams and trade him ...

Maybe the rumors of Wang defecting will scare the Chinese into to giving the Rockets whatever they want for fear that Yao will become frustrated enough to defect from China as well.

Good for Wang bad for Ming- which is ultimately the best thing that could happen to the Rockets...If true this is pretty damn funny- Mark Cuban destroys communism- labeled international spy and fined by David Stern.

Forget those defecting things, I can not believe he would do that.
He is a super star in China, he has everything in China, money (much more than Dallas pays him), fame, family and everything.
Who can tell me why he defects? A tast of freedom?NO WAY.
I guess he just want to have a good time in California with
    his girl friend.
To China Gov, a little upset? yes he might be for holding him so long after he requested for going to NBA. Nothing more.

Take my words, we will see Wang and Yao playing together for China Team in World BBall game in Indiana this August.

Here's a link to this story in the Dallas Morning News.

    http://www.dallasnews.com/sports/basketball/mavs/stories/060602dnspowang.c4bd3.html

According to the article Wang says that he is not going to renounce his Chinese Citizenship, and he plans to play for the National Team. He says that he will learn more playing for the Mavs summer league team than he would training with the National Team.

The only thing that makes me doubt this is the fact that he has missed more than one deadline to return to China. He could just be mulling over his decision to defect. By missing several deadlines to return he has already assured himself of a major a$$ whoppin once he returns to China. If he returns the Chinese Gov. may never let him return to the US thereby ending his NBA career.

There's also no doubt that this will have a HUGE effect on Yao's draft status.

I agree 100% DaDakota. I think Butler is the real deal, ESPN insider moved him to #1 on their mock draft (and pushed ming to #3)
