I would just like to hear everyone of you sorry bastards comments about Walt's play of late. Torres? Please. If you guys would stop hating for a minute and actually take a look at what is going on on the court instead of in the stat sheets you might come to realize that our players can only succeed when they are given the opportunity to. (i.e. Rudy, Passing,101)
Why look at just his play "of late"? Let's look at the whole season (I'm assuming you missed last season). He's had a couple of games where he's been off. Feel free to ride his bandwagon all year long but when he goes 0-7 make sure you buckle up! The guy is just too inconsistent. Maybe this year will be different. But I wouldn't bet the house note on it.
Don't suck Walt off yet, he's always given us 10% good games, which amounts to about 8 games a year for the mathematically challenged. However, he's better than Glen Rice, his lateral movement is shot, along with his nonexistent jumper. I don't think he can dunk.
8.2 games. Uhhh...yeah, Wiz can dunk. You don't remember him throwing it down in the Dallas game, hanging on the rim for like, 5 seconds?
I would just like to hear everyone of you sorry bastards Nice way to get people to your side.
I still think Walt sux and is only upping his trade value. We needed Walt to score 30 to win against an injured Port team. We still need to play better, but a win is a win.
Walt is a below average player, I would rather see some of the young guys getting his minutes. One good game does not make you a good player. DaDakota
Walt may be a below average player, but he's still better than Glen Rice right now. He needs to be in the starting lineup, whether it is taking Rice's spot or filling in at PF temporarily. What he did last night may have been a once in a while thing, but its better than what Rice is doing. He hasn't had a really productive game yet. Let Walt start!
If you look at his play all of last season, you will see that Walt had a better 3 point percentage than Bullard. He may be streaky, but it all evens out to a very respectable shooting percentage. Walt has made me a believer this season. Walt fan: #0000002 Damn Roosevelt.
I was a Walt fan when he played PG at Maryland. I was a Walt fan when he was a promising young player for the Kings. The track record, however, has made me less than a fan. Lets see... It's a contract year, and Walt came in in shape and ready to play. Lets see... every year that he's been in the NBA and he's had a contract, his skills have eroded from the previous year. Play the dude. Let everyone remember the 'next Magic' then trade him away before he gets paid and stops caring again.
Dean I think I will have to disagree with that. I think I am Walt fan #0000001.. aren't you Walt fan #0000002?
This point about the contract season may not be all that far from Walt's motivation. If you remember back to his first season in Toronto, Walt was signed by Isaiah Thomas to the league minimum or thereabouts with a promise that if he produced, he'd get a nice extension. Walt had one his best seasons, scoring 16.4 PPG and grabbing 5 RPG along with shooting 40% from behind the arc. Isaiah inked him to a 5 yr 20 mil extension (or something along those lines) after that, and its been downhill since then. Based on what I was hearing from Jonathan Feigen in a radio interview, Walt could be put in a position to excel this season. Feigan was mentioning that the forward lineup of Williams and Rice which the Rockets utilized in the Porland game is very possible throughout the season for stretches once Rice gets his shot back. This would mean more PT for Walt. I hope the Rockets dont make the mistake of giving Walt a hefty extension after this season. Terence Morris is the future SF for this team, and he will need to start getting more consistent PT next season which would likely come in place of the mins Walt will get this yr.
I also would be up for re-signing Walt after this season only for Bullard money with Bullard minutes and Bullard-spot in the depth chart if he continues to put up Bullard-like 3pt FG%
Ok, most of you are against Walt. Let us try and justify your position. First of all, most of you think he stinks so it is up to me to prove otherwise. Walt has done whatever Rudy has wanted him to do and hasn't b****ed about it or displayed the normal behavior of players that think they deserve more playing time then they are willing to earn. Walt started at center against Dallas. Before that he was coming off the bench to replace Rice who basically got the starting job based on past performance. Walt lost his starting small forward job to Shandon last year because Shandon is supposed to be a better defender. Bottom line, has ANYONE seen him not play hard when he is in the game? ALSO, has anyone ever heard him complain? Walt might not be the player you want, but his work against Dallas as a center and his 20 plus points helped the Rockets win that game. Not to mention his 31 point performance filling in for Kenny Thomas as a power forward and also playing the small forward position and whatever other position he was asked to play helped them win the game against Portland. The "experts" say Glen Rice is a complainer when he doesn't get his touches. I don't buy this because of the situation he was in before he arrived in Houston. The season is still early, lets see how he responds. Rudy gives everyone a chance to prove their worth. Team Chemistry? My final words. Walt is definitely an asset. We might even see him play shooting guard in relief of Mobley.
