So he turned them in. Can't believe how many games they recorded. The infamous Rams tape is not in there but they did record the Steelers in the AFC championship game. Hope they get what they deserve. That has completely made me lose respect for that team. (not like i had much to begin with)

After brokering a deal to protect himself, former New England Patriots employee Matt Walsh has finally turned over his evidence in the videotaping controversy.

The New York Times reported and the NFL confirmed on Wednesday that Walsh sent eight tapes to the league that show the Patriots recording the play-calling signals of five opponents in six games between 2000 and 2002.

Taping the signals of opposing teams is prohibited by league rules, and the Patriots were already fined $750,000 and docked a first-round draft choice in September for taping the New York Jets. NFL commissioner Roger Goodell left open the possibility that more penalties could be levied.

A Patriots employee from 1997-2003, Walsh reached an agreement to turn over the tapes in exchange for being indemnified from all future legal fees.

The New York Times obtained a list of the Walsh tapes, and the league confirmed that list, which says that the Patriots taped offensive and defensive coaches in regular-season games against the Miami Dolphins, Buffalo Bills, Cleveland Browns and San Diego Chargers. The team also made video of the Pittsburgh Steelers in the 2002 AFC Championship Game.

Walsh's tapes do not include the video of the St. Louis Rams' walkthrough before the 2002 Super Bowl, as reported by the Boston Herald.

"Mr. Walsh has never claimed to have a tape of the walk-through," said Walsh's lawyer Michael Levy, according to the Times. "Mr. Walsh has never been the source of any of the media speculation about such a tape. Mr. Walsh was not the source for the Feb. 2 Boston Herald article."

Walsh has separate meetings scheduled on Tuesday with the commissioner and Senator Arlen Specter in which he is expected to provide additional details about the taping process.

Under his agreement with the league, Walsh can retain copies of his videotapes, but he cannot use them without the consent of the NFL

I know a lot of people bring up BS asterisks for accomplishments that should not have them.

But the Patriots forever deserves * next to each of their SB wins in official documents, to show them as the cheaters they are.

How anticlimactic. All of that hemming and hawing over these tapes and Walsh's negotiations before he releases them and basically it is just revealing stuff we already knew.

I'm not a NE Pats fans, and IMHO, there's no * needed next to their Super Bowl wins. Personally, I think this is a bogus rule: why should watching footage of the other team play the game be illegal? I mean, I could see it being illegal during a game, but these were taped for review afterwards, yes? I don't see a problem with that. What's next? Should they avert their eyes any time a coach talks into his headset? Should coaches run the game from behind a screen?

And if you think NE is the only team that does this, you're deluded. They just got caught because they have a big target on their backs.

    I agree.

If I remember correctly, they were videotaping signals and play calls and that's a big difference from videotaping the gameplay. It not only helps you in future matchups but it is against NFL rules anyway. Coaches do in fact use a screen, have you ever noticed how some will cover up what they say with their playcards?

I don't think they are the only NFL team to do this but they are the only one that has been caught. I think the other 31 teams will think twice before doing it now as will the Pats.

There's a rule that specifically says you can't do this. You may or may not agree with that rule, but arguing that it's not a big deal or maybe okay because other teams do it but haven't got caught is besides the point.

It is against the rules. It gave the Patriots an edge. The Patriots won - a lot - and not coincidentally, in the years during and after the taping began.

So you may not think an asterik is necessary, but at the very least a footnote definitely is...

hhhmmmm . . . At the time Bonds and Clemens were ALLEDGEDLY on their drugs. . .the drugs were not BANNED . . . Yet folx wants some *'s thrown on them . . . .. . . .

Wrong is wrong . . and cheating is cheating
N.E. 's Cheating was Explicitly spelled out and they did not give a d*mn and violated . . . .
HELL . . . there is less proof on Clemens and Bonds at this point

And if you think BONDS AND CLEMENS are the only PLAYERS that does this, you're deluded. They just got caught because they have a big target on their backs.

they should just allow every team to spy with tapes like that. i think it's fun to watch one team completely know what the other team is going to do on certain plays. :D
