Awful. Walsh was a great GM to take advantage of. Pritchard might be able buy some picks and turn the Knicks into a decent team by 2012. Pritchard might fire D'Antoni by All-Star Break.
I thought this was a joke! Damn, no bueno. At least the draft has already past. So Walsh's future depended on the players received in free agency, how sad. He gambled and we won.
That team has no assets and no building blocks for the future with Houston swapping picks next year, and owning their 2012 pick. They gambled on the 2010 free agent class and lost, mortgaging their entire fure in the process.
Walsh really is a good GM, he just had a mess to clean up left by Isaiah. The only way they were going to be successful anytime soon was to land Lebron, and it didn't happen ... so I imagine Walsh just doesn't have it in him to continue rebuilding.
Wow. Sounds like Walsh really needs to retire and move back to Indy. Hope it isn't a recurrence of cancer.
Walsh did what he could. Even if they couldn't land LeBron, they still needed to clear cap space in order to rebuild. I don't think Walsh has anything to be ashamed of. Going after LeBron was his best play.
Good luck to Donnie Walsh....After reading the article, the guy is 68 yrs old....and almost paralyzed. Pritchard is a good hire and very good GM. Hope it takes longer then 2 yrs to rebuild since we have those picks....
We know he can't turn them around without stealing players from Morey in the draft and its already passed this season. Who else is he going to sign or trade for, Richard Jefferson? There's no one left.
Not yet! @alanhahn twitter: Donnie Walsh on report that he may retire: “I’m sure there are guys around me that are predicting my death, right? I’m not there yet.”
Pritchard isnt' that great of a GM, it's a lateral move. He's just more stingy than walsh. He did nothing in Portland except bad draft's and dumb trades. When your team fires you and hour before the draft, I wouldn't say you were looked at as a good GM. Steve Patterson is what made Portland good again, Pritchard is what drafted a broken Odem instead of superstar Durant.
For all of those who think Pritchard is a smart GM - could you please tell me something significant he's accomplished? He didn't draft Brandon Roy. He didn't draft LeMarcus Aldridge. Those guys are the reason Portland has any success. As far as I can tell, his best movie was acquiring a washed up Camby because both Oden and Pryzbilla went down. Otherwise he lucked out when Hedo balked at getting overpaid by them and went and got overpaid elsewhere. Then he panicked and signed Andre Miller to a big deal. Miller didn't fit with them and his signing led to a disgruntled Brandon Roy. Seriously. What has Pritchard done?
