Wally Szczerbiak wants the max? Uhhhh....good luck getting ANYTHING close to the max with the T-Wolves already dishing out $39 million to Garnett and Brandon...

I LOVE this quote from his agent...

<b>"This isn't any sort of 'line in the sand.' We're in this thing together,'' said Wichard, who anticipates talking with Wolves vice president of basketball operations Kevin McHale in the next few weeks. "Wally has been as important to his team as any of the guys who came out (in 1999). Of that class, let's take a hand count of All-Stars.''</b>

OK, let's take a hand count

    Elton Brand - one appearance
    Steve Francis - one appearance
    Baron Davis - one appearance
    Wally Szczerbiak - one appearance

I count three guys that have been more important to their teams than Wally has been to his team

Wally better tell his agent to chill with the max demands, or both of them will be in for BIG disappointments...

Your on point A-Train, Wally is the second fiddle on his team and with KG making 25-28mil a year and Brandon making 11mil, there is no way the Wolves can afford to Max him out. Can you imagine an averge 5-7 seed a year team having 3 players making over 10 million a year? Not to mention that if they were able to pull that off and pay him, the other 9 players would have to be straight up scrubs b/c they would have no money for role players.

Wally needs to chill w/ the max talk unless he's just paving the way for his departure. He could leave and just say, "they wouldn't pay me." Its not like all his teammates don't hate his selfish @$$ anyway.

This is ridiculous. Every decent player wants the max it seems. I don't even see why Wally was voted to the all-star game. Actually I do, but if I said it, it would piss off alot of people here... Anyways, KG says he doesn't care about money yet he signs a ridiculous contract that kills his team. Yeah, I know "But you wouldn't turn down the money..." Um, if you want to win then take an 80 million dollar contract instead of 100+...

Anyways, Wally doesn't deserve a max contract. He's a decent offensive player. He can shoot well, he has a high FG%, but he isn't all that. I just think he's really overrated.

    Can I have the max?

I'm a decent long range shooter with a hook shot and legit SG size, plus I have all of the potential in the world since I'm only 18.

If I don't get the max, I'm going to LA or NY to play for the $1.4 million exception. Show me the money!

    ;)

It's called negotiation, that's what agents do.

They should seriously think about Szcerbiak for J.Crawford/ T.Hassell.

The max stuff is going to end when the luxury tax starts to hit full force. A lot of guys are trying to cash in while they can.

    Actually, it's not that uncommon.

    For 2002-2003:

Celtics - $32.2m in Pierce, Walker & Kenny Anderson
    Heat - $43m in Zo, Grant & E. Jones
Nets - $30m in Van Horn, Kidd & Kittles
Sixers - $37.9m in Deke, AI & Coleman
Hawks - $30.6m in SAR, Theo & Kukoc
Mavs - $32.6m in Finley, Van Exel & Dirk
    Spurs - $32.5m in Duncan DRob & S. Smith
Suns - $35.6m in Penny, Marbury, & Googs
Blazers - $70.9m in Pippen, Wallace (w. POpt), Stoudamire & Kemp
    Kings - $25.6m in CWebb & Vlade
    Sonics - $25.5m in Payton & Baker
    Lakers - $35.9m in Shaq & Kobe

I'm not a huge Wally fan, but his "sin" is playing on a team with a player who has a $25.2m contract for 2002 & $28m for 2003.
Is it now crystal clear to everyone why KT for KG doesn't work? :D

If they give Wally the max, McHale should get the stupidest GM of the year award.

I agree he doesn't deserve the max. But on the point above, the other three players on that list are all going to ask for the max as well.

The cap has been around for like 15 years... KG signed his contract before the new CBA that was established from the 99 lockout. Before then, there was no such thing as a max contract. This is how MJ got 30 mill a year. This is how Shaq is making like 25 mill/year as well as Kemp.

Wally, KG, & Brandon will make 47 MILLION DOLLARS this coming season! That leaves 7 Mil for the other 9 players. Thats fine if the 3 players were TMac, Hill (Healthy) & Duncan but Wally. KG, & Brandon? I don't think so. After they lose in the 1st round (again!) they all cry about the lack of more good players but what do they expect? If Wally cared about the team he would take less money but like I said earlier, he probably just paving the way for his departure from Min.

I believe your information is incorrect. KG will make $25.2m and Brandon $10.2m and Wally World is currently at $2.9m. That's $38.3m by my math.

I believe that he was meaning 47 mill, after Wally gets his extension.

Kidrock8 is right. But to tell you the truth that 3man squad isn't worth 38.3mil either.
