i haven't watched a lick of college bball except the cougars in person.. but I have turned on this game, and I'm glad I did..
Wow, this is an awesome game! Looks like WV is gonna pull it out, which screws up my bracket, but oh well. This one is a classic!
that was just an awesome game. that gainsy kid went crazy in ot. 19 of his 29 points were scored in overtime. nice.
could the refs have been any more biased for wva? first the 3 wake hit to tie it at the end of regulation should have been a 4 point play, then they immediately open OT with a traveling call b/c the guy picked up his pivot foot just as he was handing off the pass. nevermind that that happens about 20 times a game. then paul gets hit with a charge even though pittsnogle was sliding to the side (and the replay showed as much) then they hit downey with a charge even though that guy was sliding even worse. on the very next possession, some wva guy catches a pass out of the press and takes steps before dribbling w/ no call, and then after a no call on a take down on the rebound they hit downey with a palming violation that happens about 20 times a game. then they ignore another travel (which apparently was very important to call right at the beginning of OT but isn't anymore) to get out of pressure by wva. i mean damn, how about not deciding the game like a bunch of b****es, especially on ticky tack travels and carries, especially if you aren't going to call them when the other team does the same damn thing. upsets are nice, but the refs aren't there to promote them. and while i know i have wake in the final 4, a ton of other people do too so we're pretty much equally screwed. a classic game with refs not up to the task.
I hadn't watched much of the tournament before this game, but that was great. I saw the end of a few others, and they were boring. This one just was epic, I guess.
outside of having them in the final 4, i really don't care about wake at all (and like i said, i'm sure i'm in the same boat w/ lots of people). i certainly wouldn't have minded the refs as much if i had wake losing earlier, but that doesn't change the fact that they sucked massively and seemed to give every close call to wvu over wake.
this was a good overal day, especially with only 8 games played compared to 16 the two days before. the uw-milwaukee/bc game was amazingly intense (it seemed like all 10 guys were swarming all over every rebound and someone hit the floor every time), this game was great, and the uk/cincy game had a great atmosphere and intensity to it. plus ou lost. bogut still doesn't make me think he's going to be anything special but his passing was superb today. that play where he dribbled from the 3 point line and caught the guy diving from the wing for the dunk was damn impressive for a 7 footer.
DITTO! I would have won $170 in one pool if WF won it all -- regardless of how I did with the rest of my picks. And my wife wondered why I was throwing things ... Nothing like being dead in all of your pools on Day 3 of the tourney. MAybe if Wake played any ***ing defense they would've won this game. Shoulda known better that you can't win a championship if you don't play D (unless you're UNLV).
Dude, you don't know how much I was screaming for a foul on that play. Blatant call (or really no-call) for West Virginia.
Bad execution by Wake. Traveling with that little time left in the game? Not good. Syracuse already did me in, but this puts the nail in my bracket's coffin.
And the lesson here, kids, is..... Never listen to Dickie V. Not when picking brackets, and especially not when drafting Dukies who like to drive motorcycles over 7'6" centers.
