Steve is not in our rotation at all. I don't think this is like last year when JVG told J. Howard he wouldn't be in the rotation, but stay ready in case we need you. I think this is a matter of Steve just not having enough left in the tank to really help us. I know there is a lot of love fir SF3, hey I loved him when he was here before too, but I loved Hakeem with all my heart, but I don't want him back either! Instead of the crowd cheering for him and 100 posters on this BBS calling for him, let's just waive him and avoid the distraction. I don't think he'll be much help. He's lost a step on defense, he was never that smart making decisions and we have plenty of shooters and scorers who can fill that roll. All I'm saying is this - if his name wasn't Steve Francis and he was just former player we got from another team - would you want an undersized 2 guard with dimishing defensive skills and questionable decision making with the basketball getting any significant playing time? I know I don't, not with Head, Wells and James all younger, hungrier and smarter playing the same position. Let's just dump him like the Knicks did and the Trailblazers did. Those teams need a hell of lot more help than we do and they felt he couldn't help them, why the heck would we want him? Based on loyality from 5 years ago? Come on already. Will he be waived before he sees any playing time?
You are about to get FLAMED! BIG TIME! Ohhh and let me start... This did NOT require its own thread. You could have placed it into "Should We Move Steve" thread. Next he isn't making much money at all. The only reason the Blazers cut him becuase he was making Max $$. He came here on a one year deal and is making less than $2 million. He has ALOT of up-side so give him a chance its not costing you to much to anyways.
great point. if some straggler came on our team and performed like francis did in the preseason, and had reports from adelman that he came out of shape, everyone here would want him cut. the only reason people still give him hope is because he's Steve Francis.
I think if he doesn't have a chance, then yeah we should let him go. before people start thinking about it too much. the return of sf3 was a beacon of hope for alot of fans, and I wouldn't want it to distract us from having a great year. I'm all for francis, in fact I want head out of the rotation and sf3 in. but if that's not gonna happen, so be it.
the way i see it as long as he doesn't create a bigger distraction than Bonzi did last year, then we will be fine having him sit, we can't predict injuries, but i bet there will be a time he gets extended minutes to prove himself, after that i think we make the decision to keep or cut. Its just too soon, i think Adleman wants to get a rotation fleshed out, then start bringing in some of the other pieces onces the basics are set. it hurts us none by having him sit.
Yes, I to would like to see SF3 get Luther's minutes at least alternate the minutes between the two to see who plays better.
I think we need 2million threads like this to emphasize that SF is not ready yet to play RA's system.
Why waive him? He is an asset and we may need him, if he is not in the rotation by February, then trade him, but don't get rid of him for free. DD
amazing how n00bs always support getting rid of players. and they are the same ones that jump on the bandwagon when those players start playing well.
Bonzi seemed to be a pretty big distraction, and he didn't have people in the stands chanting "We want Bonzi." The coaches, players, and owners all heard the chants obviously. I think if he sits he will eventually become a team cancer if he isn't one already.
A team cancer? What has the guy done to deserve that label? All he's publicy stated is he wants to play. He didn't ask for the chants. He gives us everything he has when he's on the court . He took less money to play here. Explain because I don't understand.
I've got a great idea: How about we play Luther Head on the road and Steve Francis during home games? Hmmm, I should be the coach...
He took less money to come here after a $30 million buyout. He came into camp out of shape and unprepared, and thought he could just mess around and get PT; his ploy obviously failed. Now he is complaining about playing time, and apparently has popular support. Bonzi had all of these except the popular support and ended up as a something of a team cancer. Only positive thing about this is that people can eat their words about JVG and realize that he isn't the only coach who wants his players to be professional.
ppl come on we have 79 more game to go, b/f we start to worry about whether SF3 is staying or going...
