As an activist in the Tea Party movement, I have been looking for the thread expressing outrage at the destruction caused by violent protest from those who would turn a blind eye to our porous borders. The critics of the Tea Party movement constantly point out our "potential" for violence -- although it hasn't happened and probably won't ever happen. However, now we have actual cases of immigrant rights' protesters burning businesses and cars -- in virtual silence here in this forum as well as around the country. Where is the New York Times' outrage? Where is the outrage over residents being slain on their property by illegals and smugglers? It's no wonder I can't adequately explain this opposite treatment to other advocates. Maybe someone here can assist me.
Yes, I was waiting for the pro-active response similar to the type demanded of Tea Party advocates on other issues.
So... what is your point? You think you deserve some kind of apology? People not starting a thread about immigration protestor violence is an admission of support of such action? Feel free to post some links to stories, since you've started this thread now. I typed in "immigration riot" in google and this is all I got: http://www.mediaite.com/tv/radio-host-mark-levine-fox-news-cameramen-have-a-conservative-bias/
While I don't necessarily agree with what the Arizona immigration law protesters are protesting, I will give them this: at least they KNOW what they're protesting. That, I can respect. Can't say the same for most of tea party folks.
I was about to say the same thing. It seems to me that the people protesting the immigration bill have a legitimate beef at least and are directly affected by some very controversial and intrusive legislation. The TEA party folks just seem like a collection of pissed off anti-government ignoramuses and xenophobes with nothing better to do without an election year. Not that either case justifies violence, or that anyone on this BBS ever tried to defend violence of that nature.
I still keep trying to visualize Hank Hill stopping everything at 4pm everyday for some earl grey and crumpets but it doesn't compute
"Many people consider the things government does for them to be social progress but they regard the things government does for others as socialism." -earl warren
I never accused anyone of "defending violence of that nature," but no one here actively condemned it. Do you remember anyone who excoriated the Tea Parties for not condemning the racial slurs allegedly hurled by advocates as opposed to crash the partiers? I'm just pointing out that it's the same type of "omission" as opposed to "commission." Incidently, I commend CNN. They just gave 30 seconds to saying that the violence "was not a good thing."
So you're pointing out that no one has gone out of their way to condemn violence at these protests...? That seems like a pretty incredible waste of breath. At the very least, post an article.
The only video I have seen was on Fox News and CNN. As soon as they post a video link, I will post it. http://hotair.com/archives/2010/04/27/video-whose-protests-are-more-violent/
