http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=2234421 I put this in here because its hot stove stuff... This would be a huge boost for them....fills a major need at closer..not to mention it helps debilitate two division foes. I'm really itching to hear our name thrown around in trade/free agent talks. This offseason is really going to tell us a lot about Purp's ability as a GM....time to get in the game Timmy!
Prospects and cash....I find it hard to believe we couldn't have come up with something better. Maybe we are going after Manny!
With Bagwell's status still up in the air and Berkman the heir apparent at first, I doubt they even entertained the thought of Delgado. Don't hit the panic button just yet.
MadMax and I agreed on this point at the deadline last year. If there were a hitter that could offset Mr. Pujols in a seven game series, it is indeed a focused Manny. The guy can flat out hit. He's amazing. That would be awesome! P.s. If you buy a 29 game mini-package, you get guaranteed playoff tickets throughout the 2006 postseason.
I think prospects, Lane or Burke and Qualls....or some variation of that. Seeing as how they won't be getting Wagner, they need bullpen help. Burke or Lane could fill in for Manny. Not saying its talent for talent...but I think they will look to deal him and take the talent hit to stop the madness in Beantown with Manny and the front office.
id rather not have to do Qualls...but I think they would want a guy that they could potentially use as a closer
im sure. frankly, i think they'd want more than lane and qualls for manny freaking ramirez. but i'd jump all over that. i don't think it's gonna happen, though. and i don't know how manny would feel about playing here in houston. in some sense, i think this city/team would be perfect for him, though. certainly more low-key than boston.
How many people would slap me if I said Lane and Lidge? Or even Lidge and prospects. I'd prefer the latter. We could move Qualls or Wheels to closer and have a pretty badass lineup.
how many people would slap me if i told them i'd rather keep chris burke than jason lane? because i would.
Let's not forget that Manny has been on waivers twice and available for nothing at all. I know that was because anyone who picked him up would have to pay his full contract and in a trade Boston would eat some of the salary, but I don't think there are all that many suitors and it might cost less than some of you are thinking (in terms of what we give up). That said, it's a really aggressive and risky move (PR wise, that is) and Purpura strikes me as rather conservative in his dealings, so I doubt there's much discussion of this. But I really hope I'm wrong.
