He's dynamic, he's athletic, he's... a Rocket? Will Von be rockin' the Toyota Center next year?

If he can curb his enthusiasm and increase his (already decent) efficiency I'd love to see him rocking his "Von Hawk."

    What say you?

Wafer reminds me for some reason of Mad Max. They have similar bodies and play sort of a similar hot and cold game. Wafer's nowhere near the defender Maxwell was, nor the "big game" player, but he is that offensive spark that a team like us needs. Shortly, yes. Re-sign him.

I would like to see him attack the basket with some sort of clue as to what he'll do when he gets there. His 3pt shot is decent, but if it was better he would be a fantastic player. So... can he drive with some sort of plan and can he improve his outside shot?

I wouldn't mind seeing him break his defender off the dribble at the 3pt line and taking a mid-range jumper from time to time. He has good elevation and stroke.

In any case I think Wafer has a lot of talent that he can utilize, but will he improve in the offseason?

I don't mind his emotion on the court. In fact, I love it. He plays with his heart on his sleeve. His emotion off the court, is another story. Back mouthing the coach is just stupid. Everyone has a role on the team; learn it, accept it.

As long as he works on his defense and passing, I'd be happy keeping him.

Ah that's the rub. Rick and Von did clear the air during that playoff series. Von did come off as immature. Both Rick and Von are passionate about the game however and Rick played him the game after Von's "incident".

He played but it seemed at times as though he really didn't. After the incident and Yao's injury, you would think this would be his golden opportunity to get more minutes, more shots, and more PT but it didn't happen. For games 3-7, he got 17, 7, 13, 5, 16 minutes respectively. Also, he let Vujajic take him out of his game. As I kept waiting and anticipating him to counter, it just never happened. Against Fernandez, he was active and held his own. This is the Wafer we need but that doesn't mean he can be content with his current game. He's got to work on his D and passing. I hope he re-signs at the right price but if he must go, its on to the next guy - flight/???.

Well he's the only real athletic wing player we have that can play SG or SF other than James White...

...Unless we get Terrence Williams in the draft. :p

Hope we still keep him doh.

Wafer wasn't bad for us but I'd rather go after Morris Almond in free agency then resigning Von Wafer.
I know "it's only the D-league" but Morris Almond holds the scoring record of 53pts in a game breaking the previous record of 51pts by....Morris Almond!!

Give him credit for being aggressive and proving his worth last season. As long as he continues to develop and not be an air head then surely He will remain a Rocket.

You have to keep guys like him on your team. The only problem I see with Wafer is he is so confident about his offensive game that he doesn't pass to his teammates, but then again someone else should cut to the basket when they see that he has the ball in his hands as well. I like him because he will attack anyone off the dribble including Kobe.He is a big reason why the Rockets were exciting this year imo.

    LET'S KEEP VON WAFER!

You need a guy like Von Wafer on your team that comes in and gives us that spark. A lot of times he was the one getting all of the quick points for our second unit. He now has two rounds of playoff experience and is a fan favorite at the toyota center. It's worth the small price we are going to be paying him!

Rockets probably won't do a thing about Wafer until they first address their other needs. I think we see a clear strategy with Morey. He tells guys to go out there and find some solid offers and then he'll make his counter offer. That's great if there's actually some interest in the free agent, but if the offers are slim and none, it gives Morey great negotiating leverage, and the league isn't likely to forget Wafer's little outburst, not at all.

True, He will let the market dictate the value of Wafer. Morey would not be a compulsive spender and I believe He is certain to retain Wafer.

Von Wafer with a right attitude is exactly what the Rockets need right now - Athleticism, 3 point shoot and dribble penetration from the SG position. Like a commentator said when he was sent to the locker room in the Lakers series, if he can't play for Rick Adelman, he can't play for anybody else. I hope he wants to stay and is focused to improve his game.

He probably wants and knows that the market for his services is tight. He should just stick with the team that gave him this break. I agree with you that with the right frame of mind, He can be an asset that the team would need this season.

You can't be serious. He's one of the worst ball-handling wings I've ever seen.
