Watching the Finals the two teams look great. They certainly look like the two best teams. Both teams have good bigs. Perkins, Garnett, Wallace & big Baby vs. Gasol, Bynum and Odom Both teams have great guards, Rondo, Allen, Pierce vs Kobe, Fisher, Artest. Good benches.

I keep wondering if the Rockets could possibly compete next year with these two teams. Bosh, a reasonably same Yao, and Scola are big enough and talented enough to play with their bigs. It might be big time international experience or the experience of being the guy carrying a team for years, but I think their experience level is sufficient, too.

Now can Brooks, Martin and Lowry match their guards? I think this is more the question, especially defensively and regarding experience to come through in big games. Kobe, Rondo and Fisher are good defenders with lots of playoff experience..

Whether our bench can match up depend on what we have left after hopefully acquiring Bosh.

Hope springs eternal or you stop being a Rocket's fan.

We're going all in next year... With an addition of a elite free agent, I have no doubt... ;)

    Don't forget Battier and Budinger.

Of course, we'll have to give up some assets to give up Bosh. But if we get him, we'll definitely give the Lakers a run for their money.

Sure, you can play with them. The Nets and Kings from last year could play with them. In fact the NBA mandates that the Rockets play with them. The question is whether you can beat them.

Considering both teams will be one year older, of course we can.

If we get Bosh (and maybe even if not, if Hill can make a leap) and Yao is healthy, for the first ime I will feel like we have a TEAM that can contend, not just pieces.

Used to be I would feel "with Yao and TMac, we're in good position. just hope Shane, Rafer, and Chuck/Juwan, and our role players (who were scrubs) can really step it up."

Now, with a rotation of bigs like Yao/Bosh*/Scola/Hayes/Hill, wings like Martin/Budinger/Ariza/Battier, and a pg rotation of Brooks/Lowry, I feel like we'd have no choice but to contend.

*of course this addition would likely affect the rest of the lineup.

Looking at their guard play, I feel that the Rockets are still a very good PG away. The front line with Yao, Bosh, Scola and Battier would be very formidable, and I would say, superior to any of the current finalists. The Rockets' guards though are not championship caliber and that could be the difference between winning or losing a championship.

No, not with the defensive weakness in the starting backcourt. We would be WCF contenders, but we would still be underdogs to the Lakers. Boston is old so they might not even be in the discussion as a championship contender next year.

Having a 7'6" guy guarding the rim helps a lot.....add in another big like Whiteside at 14, we are good to go.

If your definition of a "pretender" is just like the Lakers when they got Gasol or Boston when they got Allen/KG, then I'll take that "pretender" status.

If we get Bosh, this team is gonna be so hard to guard. A lineup of AB, Martin, Ariza, Bosh, and Yao would be the best offensive starting lineup in the NBA by far. Who do you guard? So many options.....

I'll take my chances with one of the most efficient scoring guards in league history, a change of pace bulldog off the bench who plays great D and has exemplary court vision, and a starting PG that routinely carves up the defending champs, including last year's playoffs, and recently dropped 30 points and 9 assists in a win against the team they're currently playing for the title.

It could be a whole lot worse.

a better question would be, can we even acquire bosh and keep the starting lineup intact?

Probably so, don't see us moving Yao, Ariza, Martin, or Brooks (at his salary), and we can't really trade Luis. Plus, the Raptors will probably want youth, picks, and may be willing to take an expiring or 2. I hope Morey is smart enough not to risk coming into next season with a worse overall lineup for the sake of acquiring a big name. I think he is, thus I will be fine whether we make the trade or not. The man knows what he's doing.
