Ya I found it. Not all that suprising, VY doesn't accelerate that fast but can't be caught up with in full stride. Personally, I don't think he should have ran but like most scouts/coaches have said, they really wanted to see him throw, they know he can run.
I thought Vince would run faster than that, but I think yall are right in that it takes him a little longer to get to top speed. I wonder if we'll hear anything about how he threw the ball up on nfl.com.
I doubt it, they don't have anything about throwing from the other QB prospects. I wonder if McClain will mention something about it though.
I expected him to run in the 4.4's. All bias (we all know the pro Bush and pro Young people here) aside doesn't this concern people who were looking to draft him #1? People have mentioned that they expected sub 4.4 times from Reggie to consider him #1 pick worthy. i would think VY would be held to that same standard (not sub 4.4 but in the 4.4's). The same reasoning applies. Speed in the NFL is different. That being said I am very interested to see how he threw the ball. When is USC pro day?
While I did expect him to run much faster than that, I don't think that will be the make or break factor on whether we select him or not. As said above, VY doesn't accelerate that fast but can rarely be caught in full stride. Everyone knows he can run, I think the main factor is how well he threw today. USC pro-day is April 2nd.
I have always said that Vince was such a good runner because of the long strides he took. That being said, NFL DB's will catch a 4.57. Vick even gets caught and he's much faster then that. I am pretty positive VY has either ran in the 4.4's before (or that could just have been something i read that was incorrect). With everything that's come out lately (whether it is ture or untrrue) I really wanted to hear more about the workout then just his 40 time. I wanted to know how he looked (has he added weight and is it muscle or his he not in his best shape) and how strong he is. I do agree with you on the throwing part. That is definitely the most important part of his day. In his defense (I don't know if this is true or not someone told me that it was cold in Austin today. I don't know if this effected him or not but if his workout was outside and it was cold then it could) Thanks for the heads up on USC pro day.
Ya, the only thing reported so far was his 40 time. Hopefully we'll hear something from one of the Texan's guys or McClain by the end of the day.
I'm sure it will make it onto 610 or 790 in the 5 o'clock hour if not before then. Supposedly the media can't report on it bu we all know that's a joke. All they have to do is say "I heard from a source" and they cover their ass.
yeah it's definitely cold in austin today. if he ran any time in the morning, the temps couldn't have been above 50 with winds in the 10-15mph. the high is in the low 60's.
Not unless he's going to be running 40 yard fly patterns, and even then it's of limited value, in my opinion (see Jerry Rice, or more recently Anquan Boldin). At 4.57 Vince is already faster than pretty much any QB in the NFL. (BTW, for our maroon colored haters: Reggie McNeal is 1. not in the NFL, and 2. probably a receiver when he gets there). I guess if Michael Vick was healthy he could probably beat that. But other than that there's no NFL QB that I can think of who could, certainly nobody at 6-4 230 who could. Really I don't think it matters - the guy has proven he can run over, around, and through NFL-caliber defenders with NFL caliber measurables and has dynamic quickness and open field running ability. If you're still questioning his running ability at this point, you're either blind or a lovesick aggee spending too much time in the sheep shed. i don't think Bush's 40 yard time is that important either - I hate 40 yard times and overreliance thereon. Look at Rice, Boldin, Emmitt Smith, etc. If he's going to survive in the NFL as a speed back I guess to some extent it's more important for him to run up with the top guys at his position, as Vince already has done, which I'm sure he will.
I just heard Lance on 610, who is at the pro day......he said that Vince will be throwing in about 5 or 10 minutes.
