My votes: BRACKET 'A' 1) The Velvet Underground (W) White Light/White Heat 16) Fugazi 8) Montrose - And I really love their crotch rock first album 9) Flaming Lips (W) 5) The New York Dolls 12) The MC5 (W) Man, I really hate to see these bands go up against each other so early. There is a VERY good chance that if you love one, then you love both, as do I. I'm going to go with the MC5 because they stayed together longer. Both were ground-breaking, highly original and huge influences to many a band that followed. "Kick out the jams, MF's" (4) XTC (W) Well, here we go again; another brutal early matchup. There are only one or two bands on this list that I would take over Big Star, but XTC is one of them. So, with a tiny tear in one eye... 13) Big Star 6) Sonic Youth (W) 11) 311 3) The Pretenders 14) Weezer (W) 7) Abba 10) Three Dog Night (W) Well, I never been to Spain 2) Janes Addiction 15) Sigur Ros (W) I have a feeling JA is going to be very tough to beat, but I was never a huge fan. BRACKET 'C' 1) Yes 16) Love (W) I discovered these guys very late in the game and have come to deeply appreciate them. 'Forever Changes' is about as good of a 60's album as your likely to find. 8) Mott The Hoople (W) Once again, two of my favorite bands pitted against each other early, but Mott The Hoople rules the day. 9) Built to Spill 5) The Buzzcocks (W) 12) The Butthole Surfers 4) The 13th Floor Elevators (W) Legendary, Super Psychedelia Texas band gets my vote 13) Death Cab For Cutie 6) Sly and the Family Stone (W) 11) The Talking Heads 3) Devo 14) Pavement (W) 7) The Temptations 10) Bauhaus (W) 2) King Crimson (W) I've met Jello a few times and he is seriously cool, but gotta go with the Court of the Crimson King 15) The Dead Kennedys

It is well-known that I am stupid because you called me a moron a while back, but are you sure you want to call the tournament director stupid as well?
BRACKET 'A' 1) The Velvet Underground 11) 311 14) Weezer 2) Janes Addiction BRACKET 'C' 12) The Butthole Surfers 13) Death Cab For Cutie 15) The Dead Kennedys those are the only bands worth voting for IMO (other than buzzcocks, but they got a tough matchup), and they'd all get destroyed in a real battle of the bands.
1) The Velvet Underground - Fugazi is great, but VU released one of the best debut albums ever. The Velvet Underground and Nico is the birth of avant-pop and just about every other band on this list is indebted to them. 9) Flaming Lips - up until 2 years ago, I would have picked Montrose (their debut album rocks mightily), but Yoshimi is the greatest pop album of the 21st century. 12) The MC5 - the Who may be called the first punk band, but the MC5 really was the first. An astoundingly powerful live band that managed to translate onto a live album. 13) Big Star - Although I respect XTC, I basically don't like Andy Partidge's voice. Big Star wrote a song ("The Ballad of El Goodo") that got me through one of the roughest times in my life. No contest 6) Sonic Youth 11) 311 - Abstain. I loathe both of these groups for the same reason - ponderous music with atrocious vocals 3) The Pretenders - I love Chrissy Hynde's voice. 7) Abba - guilty pleasure 2) Janes Addiction - Maddeningly pretentious at times, but nobody sounds like them. BRACKET 'C' 1) Yes 16) Love - Abstain. I hate Yes, but have never consciously listened to Love. 8) Mott The Hoople 9) Built to Spill - Abstain. Have not listened to either enough to judge. 12) The Butthole Surfers - They never edited or filtered their material (lots of brilliance and lots of crap) but at their best, they rock mightily 4) The 13th Floor Elevators - I have a fever, and the prescription is ..... more washboard!!! 11) The Talking Heads - Larry Graham (in Sly's band) is one of the most influential bassists ever. But I still like the Talking Heads better. 14) Pavement - Devo made me laugh the first time I heard them. Pavement makes me laugh every time I hear them. 7) The Temptations - only because they had the good fortune to have James Jamerson play bass on many of their songs. 2) King Crimson - Robert Fripp and (later) Tony Levin are just sick musicians. Bands that should have made the list (but I can't complain since I didn't participate until now): Bad Brains Wire Gang of Four Iggy and the Stooges
BRACKET 'A' 16) Fugazi 9) Flaming Lips 5) The New York Dolls 4) XTC 6) Sonic Youth 14) Weezer 7) Abba 2) Janes Addiction BRACKET 'C' 1) Yes 9) Built to Spill 12) The Butthole Surfers 13) Death Cab For Cutie 11) The Talking Heads 3) Devo 7) The Temptations 15) The Dead Kennedys
Yes, I'm afraid I will have to give Meowgi A VERY STERN WARNING for his ill manners and lack of diplomacy
