Saw an ad/special offer for them from the DSL Modem box they mail you when my parents decided to get DSL. Does anyone use this service? How good are the movies that are downloaded, how extensive are their library etc. Things like that. I didn't sign up for Netflix since I'm whimsical in what I watch, but I don't like Blockbuster for the drive etc. This sounds like something for me but I just want to know if there's anyone had any experiences with it.

Well, since there wasn't any response to this thread, I held of on it but decided today what the heck, I'll give it a try.

    Early impressions: some what dissapointed.

    Reasons:

You have to download the movie, which takes time, so it's not instant instant gratification. You might be delayed a few hours which sucks.

Selection is pretty small, and some of the movies are pay - per - view on top of your monthly service, which is lame. They claim 2500+ titles, but I think there's a rotation among them. Basically it's more like HBO on demand with a little more movies. I would say, your membership give you access to more like ~ 4 - 500 movies at one time (not including the ppvs), and not neccessarily all of them you would like.

On the other hand, they do give you starz online stream for free which to me could be worth ~5 bux a month, so the extra 5 bux per month for an more of a search feature isn't too bad imo, so I might keep it. Especially since from the days of Kazaa and anime watching in college, I'm actually more comfortable watching something on the computer. The quality for video is decent, and I do like the fact I'm not stealing (atleast for those movies I watch on vonage :p )

Yeah, but I'm kinda whimsical in what a watch, and the max 3 movies at one time 1-2 days waiting period to replace kinda dampens it for me (even the ~2 hrs dl time from Vongo is making me antsy). I'm tempted to go with the Blockbuster deal, where you can return movies to the store, I think that may be the best option, especially there's a blockbuster on the way from work.

    Except the goat.

The problem with the Blockbuster one is that they dont seem to have the same selection that Netflix has. Besides that, if you have certain movies in your queue and you go to return a movie at the store, I am pretty sure it isn't guaranteed that they will have that dvd in stock at that particular store. Basically you will still have to wait for it in the mail, this is pretty much a sure thing for older movies that they probably wont have to rent at the store. The only thing that ever made me want to switch from Netflix to Blockbuster was the price right when Blockbuster started doing the online rentals. But Netflix dropped the price and I stayed, I actually switched to 4 at a time. But seriously, you say you can't wait 1 day for a movie? Theres no way in hell you can even have that much free time to watch movies constantly.

Nothing really having to do with time to watch a movie, more like if I want ice cream 9' o clock in the morning, it's isolated to that particular time span, I might not want it 4 hours later or something.

Well I just cancelled Vongo, but I do like the fact that I can download everything to my HD and watch it at my convinience. So having 30 movies to match your mood helps, also you can dl stuff in advance to pre-empt it. But it's all moot, going with Blockbuster anyways.
