First time I'd seen that. Thanks. Von Wafer continues to surprise. Maybe he's this season's Vernon Maxwell, the Walmart Edition. The Mad Max who helped take us to the first championship, without the stellar defense, but with more consistency. I'll take it!
he's still got a lot to learn. but i like his energy, his passion, and his drive to make it to the pros. i hope he's stays in houston for a long while.
I love his fire and passion. You can see him get upset when he makes a mistake or misses an open shot. This is a great story and credit Morey for bringing this kid in and the team for giving him a chance to blossom.
Thanks, good video. It's says something that he looks back on his D-league experience w/ appreciation, instead of a chip on his shoulder.
Funny that majority opinion (on some occasions... it shifted a lot) would've picked Strawberry over Wafer because of Strawberry's defense. Now we have this Von Wafer and Kyle Lowry. There's a lot to be grateful for in Houston.
Nice video, thanks I really like his post game interview from last night. I know some of the players say what we want to hear but this guys seems very sincere. He said he is trying to take advantage of all his minutes on the floor and that he knows he's made mistakes so he watches a lot of video to become a complete player and realized he has a lot of open guys he needs to hit. That’s what helped him get his 5 assists. Wafer is only going to get better, he's picked up a lot of knowledge along the way. I'm just glad he's here now. At times I feel like he tries too hard, when he needs to let the game come to him. I see him as Steve Francis lite. He's handles aren’t there yet but he hits the 3's, attacks the rim, plays with his heart and has some nice dunks. I look forward to seeing Von get more minutes.
I mean he is only 23, so he is not that old. He must be working his ass off now that he has found a team that is willing to give him a place in their regular rotation. I am glad that he played an exceptional game in NO and hope that this kind of intelligent play will continue.
I have to second that proposal...the guy just makes things happen on the court. We only have him and Landry that are athletic, can shoot from the outside, and take it to the rim and finish so lets start taking advantage of it more often!!!
It's funny how many people wanted Strawberry - despite the fact that the guy has very few skills at the NBA level. Even if Wafer didn't pan out, Strawberry wasn't worth it!
Hey I'm taking a Wafer over Strawberry anyday...actually I wanted to keep Mike Harris but hey I'm happy with the front office for not listening.
I didn't really care for either Wafer or Strawberry at that point... It's not like anyone would have really thought either would play much at all. But I am so glad they made the right decision because although he sometimes makes bad decisions on the court, Wafer is a player this team needs. He takes the ball to the hole and can shoot threes. Can't ask for much more... besides defense of course.
Plus if he passes the ball like he did last night, he can develop into a star SG, or at the very least, a solid SG like Richard Jefferson.
