I know yall are still pretty hyped up about cp3 coming to Houston but..So am I (yall can pretend to be just as excited) !!! My cousins and I will be in Houston from July 1-8. I only lived here for a short time I was younger and really wasn’t old enough to go out and do things / explore so I’m not too familiar with the area. I’m assuming most members on this forum is from Houston, so I just wanted to ask what are the best places to eat/things to see or do for young adults (18-23) to do in our short time here. My cousins want to take some Instagram worthy photos so we will be going to some “water wall” but that’s about all I know we’re doing so far. Are there any Houston Rocket related events going on during this time? Thanks for all your help.
man dude, just eat the food. hamburgers - hubcap grill pizza - barry's pizza on richmond BBQ. Roegals BBQ. done.
Rockets-related? When are free agents signed in July? When do trades become official? Maybe some public "yay, team!" thing like standing outside the Toyota Center in 95 degree heat to see Dwight's arrival and our Rockets legends. But whomever else we get, that might not happen until later in the month.
Go see the Astros play if they are in town. Fairly cheap tickets. Assuming you are staying inside the loop? Get some good BBQ and Tex-Mex. Roegel's, Brisket House, Gatlin's are all good BBQ. El Tiempo, Cyclone Anaya's, Pappasito's and Lupe Tortilla all have good fajita's. Goode Company Tacqueria has good mexican(ish) breakfasts as well. You can get good burgers at about 8 places. The water wall you speak of is right next to the Galleria, which is a place to kill some time indoors escaping the heat I guess... Not really much to do here in the summer other than eat/drink.
I highly recommend spending an evening in one of Houston's historic Wards. I hear that they are absolutely majestic after sundown.
Go eat actual mexican. Tex Mex is not Mexican. I have nothing against Tex Mex, but don't tell people I went to El Tiempo for Mexican food, because that isn't Mexican food, it's Tex Mex. For a hole in the wall, I recommend Aguascalientes on Broadway or Taqueria Jalisco on Monroe and Old Galveston Road. Or go to Buey y Vaca on airline.
The Original Ninfas is also excellent and close to Minute Maid Park if you are going to the Astros game. Do not go to one of the other Ninfas locations.
I don't know man, I've given the original ninfas so many chances and their food is just bland. I just went yesterday and same result. I'm sticking to El Tiempo from now on. Besides El Tiempo, Lupe tortilla has some damn good fajitas.
I have only been twice in the past 3 years. Once was for brunch, and it was delicious. The other time was dinner, and I liked it. It is possible that it was my fond memories of Ninfas that were flavoring the dishes. But my wife who isn't from Houston liked it a lot as well.
I always stop by Ninfa's when I am back in town. They have gotten a lot better in the last few years, overtaken El Tiempo for me. All my out of town friends love it as well. Lupe Tortilla on the other hand has never given me decent food. Obviously real mexican food should be located if visiting Houston, but so should tex-mex. As someone that lives in a place without real tex mex, I miss the stuff a lot. People always suggest Kemah, I would say definitely SKIP Kemah, just a bunch of terrible chain restaurants and rides by the water. total waste of time imo
I would just go to Galveston instead of Kemah. You can go to La King's and get ice cream and candy on the Strand. Kemah can't top that.
Go to a Astros game Drive to Brenham and take a Blue Bell tour. Little over a hour drive. You might need to book the tour in advance. If you like history Battleship Texas and Washington on the Brazos NASA
Well, many people like to sit and look out at the water and go on the rides. The place is always packed, so they must be doing something right...
Go to Austin lol. Not much to see in Houston, just things to do. All the food and entertainment you could want basically.
It's no less Mexican food than what is cooked by Italians in the US is Italian food, or Vietnamese, etc.... It's just a migration of the same culinary traditions, flavors, and similar ingredients to a new location. They're different and they're delicious. But I get your point. I second the idea of a day trip to Galveston, proper sightseeing and wandering around there. Strand, Moody, mansions, whatever. And Lupe Tortillas has **** fajitas. Everything else I've had there is good.
If you're in Houston for a week with easy transportation, you have plenty of time to do everything suggested. Restaurants, Galveston, hoods, Kemah, NASA, everything. Also, drive the entire area within HWY 99. Stop at convenience stores, restaurants, and bars.. and drive through neighborhoods at all places. It's easy to experience plenty if you have an entire week. Drive every freeway from downtown and out. The West has the most luxury. The North is the biggest. The East/SE is industrial.
Nice! Welcome to the H. I can help you out tons. What do you want to see / eat / do? 1 week is a lot of time. And where are you staying?
