I'm going to Baton Rouge this week to check out LSU Law School. Since I'm taking a couple of days off from work, I figure I should make the most of it. Anybody know of any must-sees or must-dos in the area? I've thought about checking out the nightlife, resturaunts, shopping (traveling with a female companion, so this is a must), etc. Also thought about going into New Orleans for a night, but I've decided against the Hornets-Jazz game on Friday night (talk about a yawner). So, what's the best way to experience Louisiana in three days, two nights?
Yeah, my hatred kinda left with Stockton and Malone. Besides, as much as my anglo pride influence my basketball preferences, Dickau, Andersen, Lampe and Nachbar would make a better frat chapter than an NBA team.
I went to LSu for my undergrad. (Mathematics). I was in NO this weekend, flew into BR to save a few dollars. Baton Rouge is just a big college town. Everything flows around LSU sports. I saw a friend this weekend who is actually a grad of LSU law. He is getting married in November, and had to plan the wedding around football. While in BR, try to check out a few plantations. Nottaway is especially nice. The best places to eat are all in New Orleans. What do you like to eat? I can offer some recommendations.
We have an office in Red Stick, so I spend quite a bit of time there. I don't really dislike the city at all (I think it would be a fine place to go to college), but as far as restaurants go, Baton Rouge is just another mid size city--while New Orleans is World class. It shouldn't take you that long to get the necessary "feel" for the school. I'd spend the rest of the time in NOLA--this coming weekend is the French Quarter Festival.
Thanks for the tips, everyone! Keep 'em coming. I was thinking local stuff - Cajun, Creole, French, etc. Local stuff, nothing touristy, hopefully casual, not too over-priced. My companion also has a fondness for Greek, Italian, and Japanese. I think we might have to check out a plantation. Thanks for the name, I'll check that out on Google. Oooh, free music. Great find! Do you think this would cause problems getting hotel reservations? Anybody have any hints for hotels in NOLA?
Expedia has the Park Plaza on Canal for $127 a night. It's not IN the quarter, but it's only 7 blocks from bourbon street. I'd try to step up to the Renaissance Pere Marquette. $189 a night, two blocks from the quarter, and from what I've seen of it, its pretty nice: http://marriott.com/property/propertypage/MSYBR
Also, if you can be in NOLA on a weekday, be here at 10:30 a.m. (when they open)--there will already be a line to get in. http://www.uglesichs.com/ Everything is excellent, but I especially recommend the oyster brie soup, the fresh and blue cheese fried oysters, the fried green tomatoes, and the bloody mary's. The Po Boys are awesome too.......but you have to go to Mothers to get a Po Boy as well.
I was born their get ready for some good eatin Cajun foods owns like Tmac against the j*zz.I reccomend celebration station i have many fond memories of the arcade.
