I'm not sure how I picked this up on my computer, because the only places I go to on the web (at least on the infected computer) that is not a cnn type website is clutchfans and facebook. It poppsed up while I was browsing clutchfans, but immediately before I was on this site, I was watching a stupid video someone sent me on facebook. Regardless, my computer d/l Antivirus System PRO and it prevents me from opening IE, outlook, word, excel...even the add/remove programs utility or task manager. I have no idea what to do to get rid of this. Advice?? Please?!?
It's this site. Here is a way to get rid of the virus (or at least keep it at bay). 1. Turn off your PC. 2. Turn it back on. 3. As fast as you can, click on the system restore program and pick a restoration point in early-mid November before the Anti-Virus Pro virus can load itself.
even a streaming video? i can't d/l anything because it won't let me open up internet explorer to do so.
I really have no idea...there are quite a few IT folks here who can help. I had the virus and downloaded both programs onto a flash stick from my desktop and loaded them onto my laptop and they got rid of the virus (though I had to rename the .exe files in malwarebytes so that the virus wouldn't recognize it and shut it down) then ran Avast as well and it cleaned it
I've already dealt with this b*tch malware program like three times in the last two months on friends' different laptops and PCs. It comes in many flavors and colors, but the most common one is "Antivirus 2009" and "Antivirus System PRO" who the F thinks of these names, anyway? You clicked on something that appeared to be a benign program, and voilá, you got yourself a malware b*stard of a freakin' scum-suckin' maggot program. All I did was a system re-install to factory settings. Nothing else is going to absolutely get rid of that beast of a mother effin' trojan. Sorry for the negativity, but that's what happened to me, sir.
Sweet. Of course it's on my work laptop. My computer has been sitting there while I look for options on my personal laptop...and now it's popping up IE and sending my to p*rn dot com and adult dot com [don't try and go there]. This is going to be great trying to explain it to work. Pretty sucky that I occasionally browse...extracurriculars on my personal computer but am careful on my work computer and I get that on my work machine. I just read the thread in Feedback - does this mean I have to break my clutchfans habit for good??
Not really your fault and it can happen to anyone. Your "work" is also at fault for not providing your work laptop with proper antivirus or firewall to protect it. Just say you browsed one or two pages on a google search and it downloaded this virus to it. There's no shame in accepting you did something non-malignant. Of course, if you lie about it, they're gonna read you like a book. Better back up the work files NOW by transferring them to a virus-protected PC or laptop.
Wow, that reminds me, I need to send an email to the Admin..I picked up that virus twice in the same week..both times while on Clutchfans. Facebook is banned from work, so the only websites I've visited were CNN, yahoo homepage and here. Both times it came up, I was looking at a Clutchfans thread. On a Mac here at home, so its not a concern here, but now I'm banned from Clutchfans at work.
Apparently I'm so stupid about computers that I don't even know where to find the system restore program. Where's that?
I don't believe that program even lets you start up windows and get to the System Restore. Are you saying CLUTCHFANS gave TL the virus? Those are some serious allegations, sir.
There's another thread on this in the feedback forum: http://bbs.clutchfans.net/showthread.php?t=177651
This virus is real nasty. I had this and thought it was a real anti virus software. I only noticed something was wrong when I would get all these error messages. This is one filthy bug..
I doubt it's just CLUTCHFANS' site. *if it is, why are we all still here?* I have McAfee Antivirus and update it regularly. I have not been "infected" but knock on wood, like you say earlier, it could be this site. What kind of protection do you have, DFWRocket? You live in Ducking Fallas, man, you pro'ly deserve it...
How did you guys get rid of it? I downloaded malaware bytes on my personal laptop and transferred it to my work laptop, but the virus won't let me run the program to kill it. I'm not sure what is worse...the fact that I have to make my IT guy clean this crap off, or that I'm not going to have my computer for the first few hours (hopefully that's it) of tomorrow. Waaaay too much to do for this.
Reboot and access the task manager after windows starts but before all of your programs load. It's the only way I could figure out to stop it before it loaded up. If you try to access the task manager after it's loaded it'll just keep giving you error messages and it'll keep closing the task manager so you can never stop the virus program. It's got a couple of different names, something sysguard.exe from what I recall.
Try this... go into safemode first to see if system restore will run... if not use the following. this helped me before. 1. Restart your computer, and then press and hold F8 during the initial startup to start your computer in safe mode with a Command prompt. 2. Use the arrow keys to select the Safe mode with a Command prompt option. 3. At the command prompt, type %systemroot%\system32\restore\rstrui.exe, and then press ENTER. 4. Follow the instructions that appear on the screen to restore your computer to a functional state. i got it from here , but left the sys admin step out cuz it's kinda confusing.
