How can I identify this sucker? My last laptop had some corrupted file or virus. I have tons of media files (say 3,000) and every now and then a 1 second snippet of a Ludacris song would play (it would just say "take that"), or I would hear a roar, or the sound of a door closing...things like that. I just got a new laptop and moved my files over and the same thing is happening. I have Notron but everytime I run a scan nothing pops up. What's going on........
Download and run the following. Before you run, make sure you downloaded all the updates and run the following (and Norton) in SAFE MODE. Spyboy Search & Destroy Lavasoft's Adaware Personal Edition Spyware Blaster Anti-virus program (in your case Norton) See if that helps out any...
I have no idea, but thats a pretty cool virus. It would be fun using that laptop in the library, and all of sudden Ludacris busting out "Youza Ho!"
I was on the phone with Symantec support once and I asked the guy a couple of questions and got some interesting answers: Question: What is the most clever virus you guys have heard of? Symantec Support guy: There's one virus which does no damage to your computer and does not hinder its performance. It only does two things. It spreads itself to infect other systems. And..... Based on the local computer clock, it waits until the middle of the night, then it searches the computer's COM ports for a modem. Then it makes a long-distance phone call to Greece. So, the only symptom you see from having the virus is a phone bill full of expensive calls to Greece in the middle of the night. Question: What is the most difficult virus to deal with Symantec Support Guy: Most people think that the worst virus to deal with are the ones that wipe your hard drive. Those are acutally pretty easy to deal with because, once the data is gone, it's gone. There's one or two virii that, instead of deleting your data, it encrypts your data when you reboot. And each time you reboot, it re-encrypts your data. After a few days of infection, whenever you reboot, you have to wait a LONG time for your computer's data to decrypt, and decrypt, and decrypt. Those are tough to deal with because, since the data is still there, you don't want to just wipe the computer. But the data is very difficult to rescue because it's under so many levels of encryption. So, you can't wipe, and you can't not-wipe. Devious.
Thanks for the help. I did what ya said and I haven't heard the noise in 1 day. I hope it stays that way........
I would run at least a couple of the free online scans -- these two are solid... http://www.pandasoftware.com/products/activescan.htm Panda Active Scan http://us.mcafee.com/root/mfs/ Mcafee free scan I like Mcafee because it nailed a keylogger that was hidden deep in my system.
