RGV VIPERS ACQUIRE BO SPENCER IN TRADE WITH DELAWARE

MCALLEN, Texas, March 6, 2014 – Rio Grande Valley Vipers General Manager Gianluca Pascucci announced today that the team has acquired guard Bo Spencer from the Delaware 87ers in exchange for guard B.J. Young.

Spencer (6-1, 190, Nebraska) appeared in 15 games this season with the 87ers. He started the 2013-14 season with the Canton Charge, appearing in 25 games before being traded to Delaware on Jan. 27. This season, Spencer is averaging 11.2 ppg, 3.5 rpg and 3.8 apg. On Feb. 22, he scored a season-high 43 points and 11 assists versus the BayHawks in Delaware’s 135-113 win at Erie. Spencer was the 13th pick overall by the Charge in the 2013 NBA Development League Draft.

Spencer averaged 9.7 points over three seasons from 2007-10 at LSU. Following his junior campaign, he transferred to Nebraska and averaged 15.37 points and shot 87.6 percent from the foul line in 30 appearances during the 2011-12 season.

In looking him up, it doesn't appear that he's a very good three-point shooter though (despite the video I posted). He's shooting under 30% from three and is 1-23 from beyond the arc in his last four games... though he did have the 43-point game against Erie mentioned above and was 10-15 from downtown that game.

He played for LSU, was declared academically ineligible, then sat out a year while transferring to Nebraska (where he played his senior season). Shot a little over 33% from three for his college career.

Also, this trade was with Delaware, an affiliate of the Sixers. May be a Sam Hinkie-Daryl Morey connection here doing someone a solid.

Didn't even know trades could be made in the D-league. Can they trade D-league draft picks as well (or even buy them out)?

i think there's always a ("long-term") reason for trades that happen with the vipers, so maybe something will eventually come from this, though unlikely.

but on a side not: that video is bunk. it's just him making threes. i could put together a mix of every three that any-given NBADL guard has made and it'd look the same. i know it's not the OP's vid, but it really doesn't feature about the guy.
