Any guitar experts could help me out, I have come across a Rickenbacker Electro lap steel guitar in very good condition. I have plugged it in and it sounds good.

It is 1937-1945 model, I am going to find out the year by serial number.

Any idea of the value. I will try to post a pic later.

    Thanks for any help.
My daughter has it and wants to sell it.

They aren't worth tons of money - but those horseshoe pickups are some of the beefiest screamingist pickups every built. Not all models had those pickups so it might even have some vintage dearmonds as opposed to the horseshoe pickup.

pretty cool piece depending on what model it is. Any way to post pics? Can you get the numbers off of the pots?

also - measure the distance from the bridge to the nut. is it 25" or 22.5"?

depending on model, year and condition you are looking at somewhere between 300.00 and 2,000.00. Probably more in the 600-800 range unless it happens to be a frying pan model.

    Cheers,
    Brock

I found an identical guitar on ebay, the one we have does have the horse shoe pick ups. It is 1948-1950 model N/S

It is going for $500.00 on ebay with 2 days left on the bid.

Thanks, I am still digging in to see what we have cause it sounds great.

    dig away!

That's pretty cool man. That pickup is astonishingly beefy. Nothing quite like them. Rock and Roll all the way.

The shorter scale length is a little less sought after and a little more common. Great sounding instruments that will last forever. It is probably worth around 450 to 600 do to the fact it is the shorter scale length and is a newer model. You might get more though as it looks to be in nice condition.

    Good luck!

How bad are the keys? If they are not all in working condition then you should probably replace them (but include the originals when you sell it). If at all possible try to find keys that have the same set screw so that you don't drill any new holes. I believe the originals are Klusons but I could be mistaken.

If you are in any doubt about the keys sell it as-is with the proper description. Anyone interested is not going to be put off by having to replace the strings and the devaluation of not having original keys is about the same as having non-working original machine heads.

In regards to strings - Light gauge guitar strings (electric .011's) would be fine - although with that shorter scale length I would (if I were playing the instrument) put .012's with a wound "G" string.

Standard electric guitar strings in any case.
