LOS ANGELES — A 40-year-old man was mauled to death by as many as four dogs at the home of Ving Rhames on Friday, authorities said.

The victim, who hasn't been identified, had worked at the actor's home for about two years and was responsible for caring for the dogs, said Los Angeles Police officer Sandra Gonzalez.

Four mastiffs were seized by animal services, she said.

Police got a call at 7:15 a.m. from someone reporting a dead body at the home. Gonzalez didn't know who made the call.

The victim was found on the front lawn, she said.

Rhames, 46, who appeared in the Mission Impossible series of films, wasn't at home when the attack occurred, she said.

that's bad man...can't say it is really Ving Rhames' fault though. The guys job was to take care of them, theyll probably put the animals down, and the mans family will sue Rhames

That's weird. I was just reading his imdb profile last night for no reason.

    Sad story.

Will Hiphop be blamed for this?

There is something very strange about this story. Non-rabid dogs, even breeds that are naturally,or trained to be agressive, don't suddenly turn on their caretakers for no reason.

yeah something is off. what got me was that it was after 2 years of caretaking. You should have a pretty strong bond with the animals by then

That's what I was thinking. They are probably trained to be aggressive to keep people off the property. It's still surprising though. Rhames will be sued and should be. His dogs, so he is liable.

This is a strange, strange story. If it was purely an accident, well, one wonders if the family could recover at all. It's kind of like a pack of lions that turns on a lion tamer. An assumed risk. It's still sad and very strange.

Mastiffs are known for being docile around people but display pack aggressiveness towards other dogs. I was thinking maybe he tried to break up a fight between all of them and something terrible went wrong. I asked a friend of mine who has 2 mastiffs what he thought happened (without mentioning my theory) and he said:

"I have no idea, I used to break up fights between my 2, and they never even paid attention to me [trying to break up the fight]. But then, maybe they got nto a stash and were all coked up or something."
