Last time I went to a celebrity appearance at Gallery Furniture (oddly enough, Chuck Norris, another legend on this board), you could not get an autograph unless you bought some furniture, which I thought was pure horse****.
I went to Gallery Furniture a few years ago to shop. I was being nice to Mack and wanted to thank him for his involvement in Houston. He blew me off. I haven't been back since.
Mack's an ass. I sat near him at a restaurant and he spoiled everyone's time by yelling into his cell phone for an hour and berating everyone if his order wasn't perfect. Then a couple of years ago I went to pick him up for the St. Patrick's Day parade for which he had been named honorary grand marshall (parade is March 18th this year down by MMPUS' clock tower *hint hint*). I got out there at 7 AM only to be met with a blank stare and a "Who are YOU?" He then spent a half hour "motivating" (yelling at) his employees and then complaining that he didn't want a ride to the parade because he wanted to take the obnoxious Gallery Furniture mobile home. No apologies for the mix up, no courtesy. Just nonstop yelling. I'd rather pay a bit more at another place before he gets any of my money.
Actually it's tommorrow and unless you plan on sleeping outside for his sig I wouldn't waste your time.
Mac is an ass. I've done a few different things with him in the media and the dude just rubs me the wrong way. I did a joke about how many former athletes work at Gallery furniture and heard that he was not pleased after he'd heard it on the radio.
Well I guess he must be super moody then. If i had only met him a few times and he was cool I would say maybe I was just in good situations or he was having good days , but like i said I've met him several times and he's always been super cool. Although, I've never been working for him or having to do something for him I've always been in a laid back environment.
About 12 years ago (I was 18) I waited tables at the Nassau Bay Hilton. Mack came in for Sunday Brunch with his wife or gf. Biggest ass ever, world class jerk. It was a buffett, but refused to get up and serve himself. Horrible tipper. On the other hand, Dream was the nicest, most humble person -- GREAT tip. I'm name dropping, but what a difference in behavior. Who has more right to be a jerk? Sorry to derail -- Vince stay away from Mack and and all the leeches -- focus on the task at hand.
I think him giving away all those truck loads of furniture to the katrina people outweighs him being a crappy tipper or not being nice to you.
Well I'm sure that he had no alterior motives when doing that such as publicity and tax right offs. We all know that Mac has never been publicity hound and always flies so low under the radar.
He is an ass, a very wealthy self made man, but an ass nonetheless. Money doesn't buy you class, love, or happiness.
Am I the only person in the wrold Mack Brown has ever been nice to? Jeez, this is super weird. I can confirm that about Hakeem as well. One of the nicest guys you'll meet. Yao is still the nicest athlete ever but Hakeem was close.
I assumed they were talking about Mattress Mac (John McInvale), not Mack Brown. Maybe I missed the joke?
Yeah, I completely missed the boat on this one. I just read Vince young and immediately associated him with Mack Brown. That's why I was so confused when people were saying he was an a-hole b/c Mack Brown is very cool. Never had any interaction with the other Mac
I heard something similar. This guy told me he went to Gallery Furniture to get Clyde's autograph. Clyde was late so he was just waiting around. Mac apparently asked him what he was doing and then said "why don't you buy something first." I wasn't sure whether to believe it but now I do.
