http://www.tsn.ca/nba/news_story.asp?id=100581 According to a report in Saturday's Globe and Mail, it appears that Vince Carter might be having second thoughts about wanting to be traded. The paper reports that Carter was in Toronto on Friday and had a face-to-face to meeting with minority owner and chairman of the board of Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment, Larry Tanenbaum. ``Vince is really looking forward right now to training camp and getting started,'' Tanenbaum told the Globe. ``Vince and the entire organization really share the same goal of wanting to win, to build towards a championship team. ``And the truth of the matter is that he loves the fans of Toronto. He wants to get the events of this past summer behind him. He truly just wants to focus on playing basketball with the Raptors.'' Carter played in 73 of Toronto's 82 regular-season games last season and averaged 22.5 points per game. The Raptors finished with a 33-49 record and missed the playoffs for the second consecutive season. The team went 0-9 without Carter. Since signing a six-year, $90 million US contract extension with the Raptors three summers ago, Carter's status among the game's elite players has diminished. With two seasons riddled by knee injuries, both Carter and the Raptors have failed to meet the same success they enjoyed when they reached the seventh game of the Eastern Conference semifinal in 2001. When asked about whether or not Carter resided his trade demand, Tanenbaum said, ``I'm not going to get into the details of what the conversation was, but he is eager to get back on the court next week. And he wants to just focus on playing the game he loves.'' He has three years plus an option for a fourth left on his contract, which will pay him approximately $12.6 million US this coming season. Carter is the only high-profile Raptor player to sign a contract extension in Toronto. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------- In other words, Vince realized nobody wanted to trade for him and he pulled out before he embarassed himself even more
Vince is going to going to become a star again. why? Because once again they have a coach who will be preaching the running game. Like Butch Carter who was the coach of Vince's glory days also played the same system which suits Vince's game. Both Wilkens and O'Neil failed to take advantage this. Vince is not one to play great D but slowing down the game and playing the half court game does not suit a player who does not like to drive the lane. Plus he always gets double and triple teamed in the half court sets, and when you don't have an inside presence you don't get anywhere. I expect his value to go UP this season and then get traded by the end of the year, as long as he does'nt get a little booboo
hey .... i'm just spewing out what the media up here in T.O is reporting .... but hey what do they know about Basketball eh? too bad there's no hockey...then they would'nt have to talk about bball.
George: "HEY! VINCE!!! ha ha ha........Great game." Vince: "OH yeah.......Vince played pretty good." George: "Hey you know , I felt we had like a synergy out there, you know, like we were really helping each other." Kramer: "What d'you got there?" Vince: "These?" Kramer: "Yeah" Vince: "These are Vince's training shoes." George: "Yeah, yeah yeah yeah! I've seen these.....they sorta ..they make your legs..stronger." Vince: "Oh yeah! Vince couldn't jump at all before he got these. Vince was like you (looks at George.) Kramer: "They're Plyometric." George: "Plyometric?" Kramer: "Yeah! They isolate the muscles. The muscle has to grow....or die." George: (to Vince) Wh...Where d'you get'em?" Vince: "Vince sells'em." George: "You sell them?" Vince: "Oh yeah! But Vince's all out right now. Moving to Manhattan set Vince back a bit." George: "Hey listen ,let me give you my card. It's got my home number on it. I want to buy the first pair when the next shipment comes in." Vince: "All right" George: "All right Vince Good talking to ya." Vince: "Vince'll see you around."
Maybe if you are running a fantasy team. I don't see how adding another player that needs the ball and isn't a stellar 3 point shooter helps the team.
I lost a lot of respect for Carter. There was even not much there before this soap. But now? tssssssssss.......... I never want him on my team. I want quality guys.
I like VC, but he shouldnt come here. That would mess up our team. He will need the ball to be good. If we didnt have TMac, I would say go for it.
I've always loved his game. It seems everyone hates him now because he's been injured the last couple seasons. Did he ever say anything to offend anyone? I think he'll come back strong this year and with a big chip on his shoulder.
I doubt it. Carter has never struck me as having a "I'll show the world" type attitude. In terms of why people don't like him, I think it mostly has to do with the fact that he's the most popular player in the league (going by All Star Game votes), but doesn't come close to that, basketballwise. He's also developed a "soft" label because of his injury history and the fact that he's stopped attacking the basket like he used to. And that Nelly concert incident didn't help things either. I still think he can be a pretty darn good player, but the guy that had the balls to even attempt to jump over a 7 footer may be gone forever.
