He just opted out of his contract making him an unrestricted free agent. Maybe Tmac can persuade him to come to H-town? any thoughts on this?

Guys like that are opting out to get paid. It'll be the last opportunity he'll have to get paid in a big way probably so file this under implausible.

Umm yeah, that has about as good a chance of happening as LeBron demanding a trade to H-TOWN.

I thought i heard he wants to stay in NJ. He's just looking for a contract extension, not another team. After all, he was nick named Half Man-Half Season. He wants that guaranteed money now before he gets hurt again.

Also, other than getting us on the highlight real more often, he's still not a 6-10 rebounder and shot blocker.

Maybe we could sign him to the MLE and do a secret handshake deal with that Chinese shoe company to sign him to a huge contract. You know the one that gave Battier millions of dollars. ;)

Nets will be really stupid to give him that 4years 60M contract extension.

His regular season stats is nice. But he IS that typical stats guy who has little substance. He has to have ball in his hand all the time to be effective. He loves his jumper to death even though he has amazing athleticism. Sometimes it is comical to see a guy like him go exclusively one on one (or one on two) and shoot that jumper again and again.

T-Mac is still a better player than him.

Carter opts out of contract with Nets, chances are he will stay
By TOM CANAVAN, AP Sports Writer
    June 30, 2007

NEWARK, N.J. (AP) -- Vince Carter opted out of the final year of a contract with the New Jersey Nets that would have paid the All-Star guard $16.3 million this coming season.

Nets' President Rod Thorn said Saturday the team was informed Friday that Carter would test the free agent market, but he remained optimistic the 30-year-old swingman would return next season.

"Unless he's changed his mind, we're hoping he's back," Thorn told The Associated Press in a telephone interview. "He said he wants to return and we've always said we wanted him back."

The two sides have talked about a contract for the past month, and they are close to an agreement on a four-year deal worth more than $60 million.

Any new contract could not be signed until July 11. If the two sides reach an agreement, Thorn said the team is prohibited from announcing the deal until then.

Kurt Schoeppler, Carter's agent, has not returned telephone calls left at his Cleveland office since the negotiations began. He did not return a call on Saturday.

Carter averaged team-highs of 25.2 points in the regular season and 22.3 for the postseason.

If there is a knock on Carter, who will be entering his 10th season, it's his failure to step up in the playoffs. He shot less than 40 percent from the field in the postseason and he made several big mistakes.

Carter turned the ball over in the closing seconds of Game 4 of the Eastern Conference semifinal against Cleveland with the Nets down two points and 2-1 in the series. He also was somewhat of a no-show for the deciding Game 6, scoring 11 points while having more turnovers (5) than baskets (4).

The other potential free agent the Nets would like to lock up is center Mikki Moore, who took over the starting job after Nenad Krstic was lost in December with a knee injury.

Moore averaged career-bests of 9.8 points and 5.1 rebounds while leading the league in field goal percentage .609.

Looks like the Nets won't be a Championship threat for many more years to come. Those North Eastern teams just never have the patience to rebuild properly. It's all about now.

Unless they have a plan of dumping an aging Kidd for nothing but prospects without taking on much salary, then signing a star free agent, i have no idea how they are supposed to get better. How many years does it take them to figure out their trio doesn't work?

How appropriate your name is for your sneaky little trick. I like it...it's a good idea that might actually work...how would the NBA know what goes on under the table...any player can sign into an endorsement if it is offered...the NBA can't stop him.

But, jsut as with most seemingly error free murder cases there is always some loose end, a hair, a fiber, or a cigarette butt linking a murderer to a crime scene...so it will probably be with this attempt to bamboozle the czar.

All it would take is one loose Chinese Lip and the Rockets will be living the Timberwolve's nightmare or worse.

    I like it but I wouldn't risk it.......\

He just opted out because he can have bigger and fatter contract this summer than next summer.
