http://www.realgm.com/src_wiretap_archives/53254/20080628/cavs_nearly_acquired_carter_from_nets/ Here you basically have the 2008 Kevin Garnett. Similar ages and similar career paths prior to KG's trade. Both essentially needed a championship to cement their legacy. KG got his, VC doesn't. The difference? KG's asking price was considerably high. Since the C's went on to win a title nobody talks about how in return Minnesota received a 23-year-old franchise player, a solid role player in Gomes, two first round picks and Theo Ratliff's $12M expiring deal. That's quite impressive from Minnesota's end. Now, here you are with Carter. If all he's worth is Wally fricken Szczerbiak's expiring contract how do you not consider dealing for him? Want to hear about a "bad" year for Vince? 21 PPG 6 RPG 5 APG 46% FG 36% 3-pt 81% FT If that's a "bad" year for a player, show me where to sign up.
This is such nonsense -- Carter was the MVP of the last US Olympic gold medal team -- we haven't won another gold (World Championships included) since. His numbers in the NBA are among the all-time elites -- you can't do that for as long as Carter has without heart and dedication to the game.
Exactly. Not only that, but is he really the kind of player you want playing with a chip on his shoulder too? Imagine if he got traded to a positive situation and played with added motivation. Imagine say....playing next to Yao and T-Mac?
How about Donte Greene, BJax, Luther Head, Loren Woods, Chuck Hayes, Francis, Memphis' 2009 2nd rounder, and a future first rounder? Rafer McGrady Carter Yao Scola Battier Landry Brooks Dorsey Novak Deke Horry? (vet min) Francis (re-signed at vet min after NY releases him) Vet FA
You would think everybody would be calling Thorn after reading this blurb. I just have this nasty feeling he's going to be dealt for Gasol level crap and we're going to be sitting here scratching our heads saying, "Hey, we could have done better than that!".
Rockets need a closer someone more focused not another one who'll mail it in depending on his happiness.
Carter is an exceptionally talented loser. He's the same guy who admitted he didn't play hard in Toronto. The same guy who will rely on jumpers when driving to the hole gets too physical for him, sound familiar? Carter played with two All-Stars in Jefferson and Kidd in the East and went nowhere. He's a third option type player on a championship team.
Who, though? What are our options? Landry sucks up part of the MLE thereby making it nearly worthless. All we're really left with is B-Jax's expiring deal and any combination of Battier, Brooks or whoever. Mike Miller's gone. Who else? ...and I hate to keep referencing the Celtics with this three superstar mold but all three of those guys had the loser/choker/unable to carry a team label. Look what happened when you combined them all together. I know that's not a definitive reason enough to make a trade, just saying.
VC gotta a lot of crap for his lack of trying comments in toronto, but who here has ever been unhappy in a job. I know I was at one point and it is hard to give it a 100% when you are truly not happy. I know he gets paid a lot of money, I do understand he's supposed to be a profesional, but he is human. It takes a lot to go out and give 100% every night and even harder when you feel like your playing for nothing. I would take him in a second. He is the 3rd scorer and slasher we need.
OMG!!! I brought this up a long time ago and everyone laughed at me... now people are bringing it up like its a new idea. I think that they'll be looking for more than we have now though, i think the Jefferson trade showed that they still have some belief in VC. They pretty much have to keep him now because if they make a trade whose gonna score.
Is he worth his contract? No. Can he help the Rockets Yes. I think he will do somewhat better in Houston, and is a 3rd scorer but he isn't tough enough for our team.
