Yes or no. I'm on the sideline on this one, never a truly great player but a 23 4 and 4 career avg is strong to say the least. I would give him some points for the entertainment factor. Als has been to a couple of Finals appearances in an albeit very weak Eastern Conference. The Nets are in a rebuilding year and even though its early I think they are outperforming expectations, he's still putting up good numbers and he'll be 32 before the end of the season. Negatives, of course quitting on Toronto, never really seeming to be a player who really wanted the responsibility of being a franchise player.
maybe, but most definitely, not a first ballot. i see him making it like Adrian Dantley, who was inducted this last summer, some 10+ years after he had retired from the game.
I think so, very underrated player these days.......... He has been an iron man, and a leader for the Nets
Why not? It's not like being in the hall of fame really means anything. And I'd say he did a little more than just quit on Toronto.
well i'm not factoring in the weakness of the basketball hall of fame, do you think he is an all time great?
An all time great should be a dominant and consistent player who makes his team better and goes deep into the playoffs IMO. Vince Carter hasn't done that yet.
I disagree a little bit. To me, the HOF is about individual accomplishments, not really about how well your team does. But you're right, most HOFers do meet your criteria.
I guess so, based almost solely on his early years. I think a lot of people forgot how he was THE show for a couple of years, and poised to be the face of the league. Don't particularly care that much about his longevity as it's all been downhill from there.
Hmm, I think he has been great for the Nets. The organization absolutely loves him.... He has turned himself in to a very hard worker and good defender even though he has lost some of his legendary athleticism.....
Of course. Just looking at some of the inductees, it's clear the Hall isn't some sacred shrine where only the greatest are admitted. I'm not a fan of Carter's AT ALL, but he should get in. The dude brought the dunk back to prominence.
I think the Hall of Fame is there for players who have had pretty good careers, where they can be recognize for personal achievements w/o taking into account rings or character issues. VC has been a really good player. He seems to fit the bill. Over the course of his career he's been a great SG. Who knows what would've happen if he would have had a Shaq or Duncan on his team earlier in his career.
If Vince Carter makes it, this of all the players you would HAVE to then put in from this generation of players.
I think Carter is underrated by many people. He is underrated because he could have done more with his talent. He is similar to TMac in that sense. People don't give them enough credit for what they do for their teams, because there is always a feeling that they could have been greater players if they would just try a little harder.
He was so overrated for a while that now he has become underrated -- he constantly surprises me with the things he can still do at 31.
On pure FAME Vince would definitely fit. On the honor and excellence part, he barely misses out if I had a ballot. But a couple more good years like this year and I'd put him in.
