I'd just like to share some videos, and remind all of you of what Vince Carter is capable of; he is -IMO- the most talented swingman in the league, and simply needs to get over the injury hump to continue the domination of the league, which he began, since his rookie year. Watch, and comment. Videos
When this man puts his heart into the game, he's unstoppable. He was so aggressive in the U.S. Olympic team; just makes you feel he's wasting his own talent.
Vince is dominant when he DRIVES to the basket and accepts the contact. When he is relegated to just a jump shooter he lets the defense off easy. To me it is all about him being WILLING to drive and accept the contact. I am not so sure he is willing all the time wherease guys like Kobe and McGrady have no problem with it. Vince would be in their league if he did it more the way he did early in his career.
Thing is that Carter has so much ability in other fields, aside from his widely-renowned dunking and driving skills. He has a great outside shouter, even beyond the arch, consistant freethrow shooter, excellent passer, and -when he wants to be- above-average defender, due largely to his athleticism. I think if he were to be able to combine these talents, he will be even better. Notice that, after the summer, when he noted that he improved his jumper -which he did as seen in the following season- he simply stopped driving as much, and put up many more outside shots.
Does Vince actually shoot from the outside more than Tmac and Kobe? I know Tmac takes more than twice the number of 3s as Carter does (Carter has the much better shooting percentage by the way) and kobe takes the same as Carter does.... I would also say an injury free Carter has the most explosive drive and finish in the league... I think he's definitely on track to get back to his former self... the past season was a good start.. especially after the all star break.. where he avg something like 26ppg, 5 apg, 5 rbg, 1 block and 1 steal a game... hopefully next season we see the real VC.... he makes the league that much more exciting when he's healthy
dude sure showboats a lot. at least early in his career he did. i hope he come back 100% from his injuries. thing about him is he has all the athletic gifts of Kobe, the same size and stuff. but doesn't rebound as well... and seems to have fallen in love with his jumper.
Driving to the hole was his bread and butter when he came into the league but, like youth, it is fleeting. He won't be able to make a career on that once his age and injuries catch up with him. It's a good idea for him to develop other aspects of his game, like his jumper.
those clips are low res... but are pretty cool nonetheless. i really loved the 360 one handed dunks. too bad all the good highlights were the first couple of years. and man... i really don't like the posing after the dunks. although... if i were doing those dunks... maybe i'd be posing too.
Vince Carter's still in the league? Man, he was fun to watch before he ... um ... what happened to him again?
Got injured, then developed a fear of getting injured again, so avoided contact. For the guy that said VC is the same six as kobe, VC is two inches taller and a bit bulkier.
Also, did anyone else notice his agressiveness in the national competitions? What was up with him then; he seemed so angry -_-;; which seems to do so much good to his game.
Well, clearly you can tell Carter's two inches, no less than an inch and a half taller than Kobe and a bit bulkier with your own eyes. Nba.com lists a lot of things. They had Hakeem listed at 7'0, but in reality he was about 6'10. You could tell when he'd stand next to the likes of Kevin Garnett, Tim duncan etc.
Vince Carter had a an alley-oop one handed dunk at the Clippers in 99-00, which was the best dunk I've ever seen in the NBA. And nothing comes close IMO. The way he grabbed the ball and then the speed at which the ball went through the net. It was the right mix of grace and power. Carter has that mix more even that any of the great dunkers and that is why he is the best dunker ever, and there should not even be a debate about it.
Actually, Hakeem was 6'10 1/2" . Sorry, I have an unhealthy obsession with NBA players' heights. Example: Are you sure he's that much taller than Kobe? I've always known both of them to be at 6'7". I know T-Mac is a good 1.5 inches over Carter--I remember watching the Carter Behind the Glory and they kept showing them on the court in Toronto. T-Mac is 6'8", tops (they never under-measure a player) so Carter is probably 6'6 1/2", which I would have guessed. This makes Kobe 6'5"--at the tallest? How hard is it for the NBA to get the heights right? So many mistakes--Barkley, Rodman, Dream, etc...
Well, there ya go. No less than an inch taller than Kobe, as I said. 6'5" for Kobe would be about right, since Cat's 6'4.
