Is this legit? Look at these guys fighting hand to hand combat with mortars going off every few seconds. The courage these men had was off the charts. <iframe width="560" height="315" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/oSwGT_-WrhE" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> That is assuming this video is real.
From like the 8th youtube comment: "This isn't actual WW1 battlefield footage. This is footage from the 1927 film Wings filmed in Antonio, Texas, US. See following video and note the background hills at 0:47. Apparently a lot of footage didn't make it into the movie and there was numerous outtakes. v=ZDXaVAuxes0 'Wings (1927) - Remastered Edition [The 1st Academy Awards] [HD]'" And it's true that "dead guys" roll out of the way of one of the tanks. So, interesting, but not real footage of the Great War.
Ah good catch Bob. I read something about it being toward the 1916-ish time because of the swift moving tanks, but didn't clearly see the dead guys rolling out of the way.
I can't imagine filming was an easy or widespread enough process in the 1910's to allow for continuous operation and recording in a World War I battlefield. I also wonder how many media people though it was a safe enough environment to report or record in.
