This is very interesting, I don't use Facebook, but I never knew:

    1. Your posts do not go out to all of your friends.

    2. You have to pay to have your posts reach more friends.

 The problem with people who think Facebook is a problem:

    1. You don't know how to use it or you misuse it.
    2. You think "friends" in FaceBook and in real life are the same thing.

I don't accept everyone, and I couldn't care less if a post "reaches" all my friends or doesn't and I certainly wouldn't use it to disperse something very personal.

When you start complaining about a website in which by interaction you think you should have some privileges, albeit a FREE service like this one, you have a problem.

The thing is free and it's for your entertainment. Don't make it seem like they owe you something. You're not paying for it.

Lastly, he complains about the "views" versus the "likes."

The reason why there is a discrepancy in between the "people who like his page" and the "people who viewed his post" is because not everyone is viewing their Facebook feeds which contain that particular post he just wrote.

    Example:
I own Xyz Page. I have 3000 "likes" on the page. I should have 3000 views for every post? No.
I post today. Only 200 peeps that "liked" my page are "logged on" or are "viewing their feed" at the time, so my post will have "200 peeps viewed this." All the other 3000minus200 (or 2800) were either not logged in, or saw his next post or all the other friends' posts that made their feed scroll so much.

This guy who made the video just likes to complain but not necessarily figure out things.

You're putting quite a bit of thought into this.

The guy who made the video? Yes. I agree. ;)

I wouldn't put too much thought into making a "response video." I don't have enough time for that, but I do have time to type a rebuttal to a flawed argument.

    Swoly,
when you say "likes" do you mean like like or like as in resemblance?

Swoly, of course you don't care if a status update doesn't reach random dude x you met on an airplane 3 years ago.

However, there are many cases where this model is a pretty big inconvenience. Say you make a FB page for your band where you post music and concert info. Or for your store and you're posting pictures of your product. You'd want that information to reach as many people as possible. At the very least, you'd want it to reach the people who thought they'd be updated on the info by liking your page.

And also, it maddens me when people say that people shouldn't complain about a free service. Of course they should. How else will Facebook know how to improve it's user experience? My main issue with the video is that he doesn't really offer an alternative model.

I took Facebook off my phone and tablet, so I only log in once every couple of weeks. It's liberating to (essentially) quit Facebook. Too much stupid on there.

Next move will be to convince my SO to do the same. She's not addicted to it like some females are, but I think she'd be happier if she just stayed off it.

Ditto for about one and a half years. It became too intrusive for me and I didn't have the self control to not post idiotic stuff when drunk.

    Re: video
Nowadays it seems like everyone is their own brand and Facebook is basically a tool to advertise yourself. Advertisers are paying for it on Youtube, so I think it's essentially the same idea applied to Facebook and don't see a contradiction like the video guy.

Also I think his point only applies when a user wants to share from one of those official pages like the 'I freaking love science' page or whatever that has 90k+ subscribers, and not for regular joe shmoe who has 300 friends. I could be wrong

Only watched about a minute of the video but that's not really news to me. The main reason I stay on facebook is to keep up with/keep in touch with extended family and people I consider friends even though I may not see or talk to them regularly. Yes I have extraneous people that really aren't even close to being my "friends" and yes, I could just email or call those people that I really want to keep in touch with...but this just makes it easier.

It's also a good tool for organizing group functions since nearly everyone has one.

But there is definitely a problem with people taking it too seriously and I believe that it can seriously damage one's psyche and attitude by using it.

I read an article similar to this about how Facebook screwed over upworthy exactly like this. The point being if you build on somebody else's land you are always going to be at their mercy.

What I immediately thought of after clicking on the thread:

But really, if it every single "friend" doesn't see it, it's not a big deal. Regardless if you have 90 friends or 900 friends.

imo, if you have more than 200 friends, half of that amount you probably wouldn't even miss if they were somehow deleted. If you have less than 100 friends, you probably don't use facebook all that often anyway.

Personally, I don't think it's a big deal. If I really wanted to see what a friend was up to, I'd actively search out their profile page, instead of wait for something to pop up, about them, on the news feed.

Wait...So does this mean if I send out a post like

"Does anybody living in the student Ghetto want to split a cab to _____ sometime next week?"

Not all of my student friends will be able to see it?

    If so, not cool.
