CAIRO, Egypt - A video posted Tuesday on an Islamic militant Web site appeared to show a group affiliated with al-Qaida beheading an American in Iraq (news - web sites), saying the death was revenge for the prisoner-abuse scandal.

The video showed five men wearing headscarves and black ski masks, standing over a bound man in an orange jumpsuit who identified himself as an American from Philadelphia.

After reading a statement, the men were seen pulling the man to his side and cutting off his head with a large knife. They then held the head out before the camera

What a stark contrast in reaction as compared to your outrage at American soldiers for a lesser crime. Typical liberal....

So where is the world outrage?

We take some naughty pictures and get pasted all over the world.

They cut off some guy's head with a knife and people don't seem to be that angry.

Edit: Not to say what those soldiers did was wrong...I was disgusted...but cutting off somebody's head with a knife on video is much worse in my opinion. I don't want it to sound like I think that it was OK to do that to those prisoners.

Tape Shows U.S. Contractor Being Beheaded in Iraq

    Associated Press
    Tuesday, May 11, 2004; 1:07 PM

CAIRO, Egypt -- A video posted Tuesday on an Islamic militant Web site showed a group affiliated with al Qaeda beheading an American contractor in Iraq, saying the death was revenge for the abuse of Iraqi prisoners by American soldiers.

The video showed five men wearing headscarves and black ski masks, standing over a bound man in an orange jumpsuit -- similar to a prisoner's uniform -- who identified himself as Nick Berg, a U.S. contractor whose body was found on a highway overpass in Baghdad on Saturday.

"My name is Nick Berg, my father's name is Michael, my mother's name is Susan," the man said on the video. "I have a brother and sister, David and Sarah. I live in ... Philadelphia."

After reading a statement, the men were seen pulling the man to his side and putting a large knife to his neck. A scream sounded as the men cut his head off, shouting "Allahu Akbar!" -- "God is great." They then held the head out before the camera.

"For the mothers and wives of American soldiers, we tell you that we offered the U.S. administration to exchange this hostage with some of the detainees in Abu Ghraib and they refused," one of the men read from a statement.

"So we tell you that the dignity of the Muslim men and women in Abu Ghraib and others is not redeemed except by blood and souls. You will not receive anything from us but coffins after coffins ... slaughtered in this way."

The video bore the title "Abu Musab al-Zarqawi shown slaughtering an American." It was unclear whether Zarqawi -- a lieutenant of Osama bin Laden -- was shown in the video, or was claiming responsibility for ordering the execution.

The Web site on which the video was posted is known as a clearing house for al Qaeda and Islamic extremist groups' statements and tapes.

    Dude, it just happened.

Not to mention that we should be above that type of behavior. It should surprise the world when some of our own act the way those soldiers acted in that prison. We don't expect anything better from psychotic terrorists. Do you think we're equal?

I for one am sickened by this. I pray for the man's family and hope we catch those responsible.

It's the difference between expectations; I expect representatives of the US to conduct themselves differently than a bunch of sicko islamic terrorists.

Are these sickos more culpable? Yes. Is it unexpected from them? No.

That said this is depressing and awful news and I hope the perpetrators are hunted down and dealt with in the appropriate fashion.

The one constant is that I expect violence and cruelty to beget more violence and cruelty.

Let's see.....do I want to be made to roll around naked with other guys in prison....orrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr...have my head cut off.

    Hmmmmmm....tough call.

You think all that Arab garb they were reciting before they cut his damn head off was the Geneva Convention?

Can't wait to hear this one justified.

There was world outrage when the charred bodies of Americans were dragged through town. There was outrage when reporters are kidnapped and killed. There will be outrage here.

Tragically, we may be becoming numb to this kind of news...

(and the outrage would be fanned if people would defend this action).

We are better than this. There is a reason that we signed the Geneva Convention, there is a reason that there is an uproar against the treatment of Iraqi prisoners, and there is a reason that we need to correct the problems that led to that abuse. We are better than this, we are above this kind of behavior, and we cannot allow ourselves to be dragged down to the level of terrorists.

They are talking about it on FOX news right now. Geez, ****ing radicals! So sick.

    hmmm.

how can people be so ignorant?! Seriously. damn.....

This kind of thing makes Americans hate all the people from that area of the world. hmmm.

The guy was a business man. There is a streaming video of it online, on an Islamic Extremist site.

The site is run by Alzaqarwi (sp?).

    b*stard....

This is exactly wht the extremists want, they want the media to be showing all this. The know they can't defeat the American army, so they are trying to make us all sick of it.

Oh well. I guess this kind of thing can't be too surprising.

Nobody will attempt to justify this action, just as nobody with a modicum of intelligence would attempt to justify the actions taken in the Iraqi prison.

And another thing....the executioner is reportedly one of UBL's right hand men (Al Zarqwai I believe) who is calling many of the shots now. Let me guess....Iraq and 9-11 still have no ties...

What they have done is horrible. Just as the murder of Daniel Pearl was horrible. But we have no control over their actions. We have control over the actions of our soldiers.

There was no connection until we invaded Iraq, opening the borders up to every idiot with a beef against America. Make no mistake, we created this situation, fanned the flames with the actions in the prisons, and are now reaping the spoils.

I am not saying that this horrific act is justifiable, but it WAS foreseeable.

Do you even know what logic is?

Getting back to the story; disgusting. God, imagine the families of this poor man? Herotodus was right; most wrongs in the world are part of a pattern of continual retribution.
