Nice to hear Yao getting into game shape as the games to on. Sorry that Snyder did not respond to JVG's question about his play. I hope he can get out of the dog house soon.

Battier's unintentional popped collar made me lol.

At least I hope it was unintentional.

He was talking about Snyder. During practice, he told Snyder that he didn't feel like Snyder was working very hard. Snyder obviously did not react well to JVG's statement and that ended him up inactive.

I like JVG, but I don't like how he has a doghouse ... he's even admitting it here.

Jesus, you guys act like JVG should just let the players do whatever they want and then kiss their asses. If Snyder was dogging it in practice, coach chould call him on it. If he doesn't respond by simply stepping up his effort, then he should get benched for someone who is going to put in the effort. I am glad that JVG has a doghouse because that is how players are kept in line and focused on the team's goals. We need everyone to pull together, and Van Gundy is the coxswain. If somebody can't keep in line, they need to get the hell out of the boat.

i posted it in the other thread but this isn't snyder's first trip in a coach's doghouse. just ask jerry sloan and byron scott.

it could be jvg being overly strict but looking at the trackrecord i wouldn't bet on it.

I've always thought coaches like JVG and Larry Brown have super egos and think they have to break everyone down and always publiclly keeping someone in the doghouse is a bad idea. If i we're a free agent i would be hesitant to sign with a coach like JVG or LB over a player's coach like Phil Jackson or Rudy T.

JVG has done a great job this year, but just my opinion that coaches like him can hurt your team when competing for free agents.

Solid post. I don't think JVG has a huge ego whatsoever. The guy is always dogging himself and taking responsibility when the team is not performing to their standards. IMO he knows exactly what it takes to win and when someone is not complying with that, then he takes matters into his own hands. What is so wrong with that?

Personally, if I was on the team and someone wasn't working hard and I was... I would want the coach to call them out.

It's a team, not a bunch of individuals. If someone isn't working hard to improve the team then someone has to call them out... it is much better for chemistry if that person is the coach rather than another player.

Coaches like Jeff Van Gundy who stress accountability, effort and defense are exactly what I would want if I were hiring a coach. Look at the teams and coaches who have won- Pat Riley and the Heat, Greg Popavich and the Spurs, the Pistons and Larry Brown- they all demand the same things that Van Gundy does.
