Every year, TNT does a great job of selecting artists for their promo's. Just another year, another great promo. <iframe width="560" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/IAA4QJ8Qo64" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
This promo was kind of weird to me since "Wings" is actually about the glorification of branding and consumerism, which is basically what the NBA is. And the song was edited so that message was totally twisted. The original song mentions a kid being killed for his shoes, and how these amazing shoes are really just...shoes, and nothing to be deified. But I mean, I'm still gonna watch All-Star game stuff and the NBA. I'm just surprised Macklemore would allow his song and his message to be construed in such a way. Or I might just be reading into it too much. Whatever.
Saw it the same exact way. It's not a big deal or anything but yeah...they made it seem like this song is about how awesome those expensive shoes are when the song is really about the opposite. Great promo as usual though.
I was thinking the exact same thing. It's sort of weird, they completely flipped the meaning. It's even funnier that it's for the all-star weekend, which is the most superficial and brand-orientated event the NBA has to offer.
Imo they should bring back some of the oldies to use in these promos. Like how cool would it be if you see your fav players own the court to the tune of "We are the champions", "Thunderstruck", "We will Rock You", "Beat it", etc etc.
Man, It felt like they just ****ted all over the meaning of that song...and it would have been better if they showed us more then just the starters... I'm a Macklemore fan but I'm hanging on the fence between being happy for his publicity and hating the fact that he has to completely compromise the meaning of one of my favorite songs off the album...
